DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this 34' Swedish Sloop Built in Sweden in 1938, she was the result of a design competition for the Royal Swedish Yacht Club which aimed to stimulate innovation and design amongst the younger naval architects in Sweden. The winning designers name was Syersen. After being built, the yacht was given away in the yacht clubs raffle the following year and was won by a Scottish sailor who brought the yacht home to Scotland before the start of WWII. She has spent her entire life in Scotland and is a well known yacht, sailing the west coast for more than 30 years with the current owners. A very elegant and fast yacht but of a sensible and manageable size that does not need a large crew. Maintained to a good standard and recently launched after a spring refit.   Length on Deck 34’3” Length Waterline 24’ Beam 7’3” Draft 5’3” Thames Tonnage 7TM Displacement 5.6 tons Sail Area 414sqft     Construction Carvel planked in mahogany, riveted to galvanised angle frames with 2 steamed intermediate oak timbers. The galvanised frames are riveted with steel rivets, the copper frames are copper riveted. Mix of sawn timber and galvanised plate floors. The metal plate floors are rivetted to the galvanised frames. Oak stem, keel and stern post. External lead ballast keel of 2.25 tons with bronze keel bolts. New deck and deck structure laid in 2000. Marine plywood deck, epoxy sheathed, laid over spruce deck beams and carlins. Deck is finished externally in Treadmaster non-slip sheeting for a low maintenance deck. Varnished mahogany toe rails all round. Robust galvanised stemhead fitting. Stainless stanchions and guard wires. Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings with an epoxy sheathed plywood coachroof deck. Varnished mahogany sliding companion hatch. Varnished mahogany forehatch with a Lewmar hatch. This increases headroom in the forepeak and provides good light and ventilation. Self draining well type cockpit with seating at deck level. Tiller steering with a mahogany rudder and bronze hangings.     Rig Bermudan cutter rig on a keel stepped alloy mast. Alloy slab reefing boom. Mainsheet on a 6:1 purchase makes off at the forward end of the cockpit with a jamming cleat. Stainless steel standing rigging to internal galvanised chain plates. Double spreader rig with twin lower shrouds, single intermediate and single cap shroud. Single standing backstay. Inner and outer forestays with stainless bars below decks transferring the rig loads onto the centreline of the hull. Pair of Andersen 12 self tailing single speed primary cockpit sheet winches. Pair of single speed Tuff-Fitting secondary sheet winches. Pair of Tuff-Fitting single speed mast winches. Mainsail, staysail and yankee in white Dacron. Gennaker for off wind sailing.     Machinery Volvo Penta MD2002 18hp twin cylinder raw water cooled diesel engine. Serviced in 2021. Mechanical gearbox with single lever control and Aqua-Drive coupling to an offset 2 blade folding bronze propeller. Gives 5.5 knots cruising speed. Plastic 50 litre fuel tank. Separate domestic and engine start batteries charged from the engine alternator.     Accommodation 4 berths including 2 single settee berths in the saloon and 2 pipecot berths in the forepeak. Steps down over the engine box with galley to port and chart desk to starboard. Galley has a Plastimo Neptune 2 burner gas cooker with oven and grill set on gimbals. Single stainless sink with manually pumped fresh water. Chart desk faces outboard and lifts to access a chart storage area. Half height bulkheads separate off the main saloon with a single settee berth either side. Large trotter boxes to increase berth length, aft end on starboard side and forward end on port side. Varnished mahogany sole boards. Shelves outboard under the deckhead, varnished mahogany seat backs with storage behind. Saloon table folds up against the forward bulkhead when not in use. Starboard side passageway going forward with a hanging locker outboard. Forepeak has 2 pipecot berths that fold up against the hull when not in use. Anchor locker in the bows.
