A Sailing yacht with an excellent reputation due to her luxurious and exhilarating cruises
to the remotest corners of the Southeast Asian waters.
The interior is luxuriously furnished with teak paneling, soft furnishings and drapery framed in stunning Thai silks.
Unlike many ocean cruising vessels you are afforded superb line of sight throughout the interior of the vessel, whether dining or lounging.
A tour of this engine room will immediately point out the superb layout of machinery to make practical and easy maintenance possible whether at anchor or at sea. ASIA was designed with the ability to cruise in remote areas where on board maintenance had to be easily achieved.
The main engine is a 260 HP Gardner 8L3B know in the industry as the Rolls Royce of marine engines.
This particular engine was manufactured by Gardner in the UK in 1967 and completely rebuilt by Gardner specialist Dave Shaw Engineering in New Zealand. Her condition was new and rated at 0 hours use when purchased for ASIA in 2007. All was properly documented and engine log books have been updated throughout the life of the engine. Current hours 11,000.
One of the objectives of the owners was to store as little fuel as possible allowing them to select the best fuel supplier in a particular cruising area. The fuel consumption is 16 L per hour which results in an average cruising speed of 8 knots under engine alone. This permits a theoretical cruising range of 6250 NM.
The propeller system is linked to a Dong – I gearbox and a Scan CP-12 variable pitch propeller.
ASIA’S electrical power is generated by two gen-sets:
Cat 20 kw single phase generator with 11,000 hours.
Polar Power 14 kw DC generator with2500 hours
2x 3KW Balmar alternators on the main engine
36x Trojan T 105 batteries @ 1800AH
Hybrid power system based on energy efficient 3x 3KW Victron Multiplud
Most navigation equipment is Furuno and includes:
Furuno NavPilot 500 autopilot
Furuno Nav Pilot 511 autopilot for second station and back up
Furuno wind and multi control
Furuno NavNet weatherfax & network sounder
Furuno NavNet BlackBox radar 72 NM
Maxsea Commander
Maretron ships monitoring N2K View
The rig of ASIA has been purposely designed to provide the yacht a maximum sailing performance in a wide range of weather and wind conditions.
Her spars have been constructed of laminated extrusions by David Lambourne Yacht Rigging of Brisbane, Australia.
AES New Zealand provided full design and load analysis. ASIA’s carbon fiber boom is a Park Avenue design which enables easier mainsail handling.
