Yanmar 2YM15 engine - 15HP

The boat is fitted with a Yanmar 2YM15 two cylinder marine diesel engine producing 15HP. The engine benefits from having recently undergone an extensive service. The attached video shows the engine starting and running. The engine and engine bay are in immaculate order and the engine is extremely well-maintained.

Sail Wardrobe

'Sea Star' benefits from a brand new suit of factory-supplied sails (jib, staysail & mainsail). The mainsail sits in a new sail stack bag whilst the headsails are furled on two new Aero Luffspar System carbon-fibre forestays. These stays are sufficiently flexible when not under load to allow the bowsprit to lift to shorten the LOA.

Coppercoat Anti-Foul Treatment

'Sea Star' was recently given a complete new application of Coppercoat anti-fouling treatment, anticipated to last at least ten years without the need for lifting and application of standard, less effective antifoul.

The manafcturer states:

COPPERCOAT ANTIFOUL What is it?

Coppercoat is the combination of a specially developed solvent-free water based epoxy resin and high purity (99%) copper. Each litre of resin is impregnated with 2 kilos of ultra fine copper, the maximum allowed by law, making Coppercoat the strongest copper based antifouling available. Indeed no other anti-fouling exposes as much active copper to unwanted marine life.

Unlike many paint companies we do not manufacture different types of anti-fouling for different styles of boats and/or particular locations. Instead, Coppercoat is only available in one full-strength hard-wearing version. The epoxy carrier is filled with the maximum amount of copper allowed by law and consequently will keep fouling at bay in virtually all conditions. Furthermore, while the non-eroding epoxy can easily withstand use by high powered motor-boats and racing craft this coating is equally effective on commercial vessels as well as less frequently used and slower moving leisure vessels.

Classified as non-leaching, this highly effective coating is considerably kinder to the environment than its self eroding competitors, whilst continuing to deter growth year after year. Indeed, correctly applied treatments resist weed and barnacle growth for a decade or more! The complete treatment has been tested and approved by the Health and Safety Executive, in compliance with UK and EU law. Holding HSE Certificate Number 7532 our anti-fouling is fully approved for use by both professional tradesmen and the general public. Furthermore, Coppercoat fully complies with current (2001) International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Resolution MEPC.102(48).

Today Coppercoat alone has a proven lifespan of 10 years plus, with an unequalled continual sales record dating back to 1991.

How it works

On immersion sea water attacks the exposed pure copper powder, causing the formation of cuprous oxide. This highly effective antifouling agent deters growth until the surface degrades further to become cupric hydrochloride. This final copper form is highly unstable, and is washed away by the movement of the yacht, thereby removing any accumulating silt or slime. This automatically reveals a fresh copper rich surface, whereby the process recommences.

With an average thickness of at least 200 microns of Coppercoat being applied in a treatment, and a typical corrosion rate of 5 microns per year, it is easy to appreciate how this coating offers such long lasting and effective protection.

Furthermore, the inherent waterproofing qualities of the epoxy ensure that a treatment of Coppercoat will help prevent osmosis in GRP craft and offer extra protection against corrosion in steel vessels.

With the resin carrier insulating each copper particle, the final coating is inert and non conductive. Consequently Coppercoat does not cause electroloysis problems or cathodic decay in steel or aluminium craft. Sacrificial anodes should be fitted in the usual manner.

The engineering department at Icom have done it again and produced one of the smallest fixed VHF/DSC radios in the world. The IC-M330GE’s front face is so compact that it matches the size of a modern smartphone. However, despite its small size, the IC-M330GE has all the hallmarks of Icom's stylish design, ease of use and performance.

Ultra Compact Body, Flexible Installation The compact IC-M330GE measures only 156.5 (W) × 66.5 (H) ×110.1 (D) mm, making it 35% smaller than previous IC-M323G/423G models (see comparison on the right.) This makes it ideal for a cockpit where space is limited.

Intuitive User Interface A combination of the directional keypad and soft keys provides simple, smooth operation. Most used functions are assigned to soft keys for quick one push function access.

New Speaker Delivers Dynamic, Clear Audio A newly designed speaker delivers distortion-free clear audio even at full volume. It provides dynamic and clear audio over a wide bass and treble range.

Class-Leading Receiver Performance The IC-M330GE’s receiver provides reliable communication in RF busy environment like a marina. (Selectivity and IMD: more than 70 dB)

Built-in Class D DSC The radio monitors CH 70 continuously, even while you are receiving another channel. DSC functions include distress, individual, group, all ships, urgency, safety, position request/report, polling request and DSC test calls.

Built in GPS Receiver and External GPS Antenna The GPS receiver provides your location, bearing and speed by using information from GPS, GLONASS and SBAS. The acquired position information can be used for DSC calls. An external GPS antenna is supplied to maximise coverage.

IC-M330GE is the first Icom fixed marine VHF radio that complies with the latest maritime ITU standard "ITU-R M493-14" this standard, in essence, requires an external GPS antenna. ITU-R M493-14 will be compulsory from November 2018. All maritime class D fixed radios from all manufacturers will need to comply after this date.

Raymarine Axiom+ 9" GPS chartplotter

‘Sea Star’ is fitted with a new Raymarine Axiom+ GPS chartplotter (with UK charts) fitted into the starboard cockpit to allow for easy viewing and operation. The unit is coupled with new depth & speed transducers.

SOLARA brand Solar Panel

In order to keep the two boat batteries in fine charge the boat is fitted with a SOLARA brand solar panel. This panel is mounted to a lower companionway washboard. The cable to the panel then runs through a waterproof grommet back into the boat before plugging into a dedicated screw type socket on the side of the engine box.

Raymarine ST2000 Removable Cockpit Autopilot

A Raymarine ST2000 tiller mounted autopilot is fitted to the boat allowing yachtsmen to handle the boat whilst the autopilot takes care of the triller.
