General Details

BLUE MIST is a true piece of American History.  She has been gracing the waterfront with her presence for over 95 years and is more of a head turner now than when she was first launched.  She is a unique opportunity to obtain a place in the history of American yachting.  Her recent travels have included a tour of the Bahamas and going to the prestigious 20th Annual Classic Rendezvous held at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, December 2014.  Even admidst the truly classic Burgers, Chris Crafts, Grebes and Trumpy's she was the star of the show and took home the SPIRIT OF TRADITION award.

BLUE MIST was constructed in 1917 on the banks of the Harlem River in Morris Heights, NY by the Charles L. Seabury Co., a prominent yacht builder, and the Gas Engine & Power Co. Her original hull number is 2553 and she was better known in those years as a "Speedway"!  After a merger of these builders a few years later, these boats were known as "Consolidated Yachts".

BLUE MIST is a completely, and professionally, restored commuter yacht with all of the creature comforts found aboard the modern cruising vessel. All of her systems and structure have been modernized, and during her 95 years of service she has been tasked with many jobs, from a private family yacht, U.S. Coast Guard patrol boat, Yacht Club tender to her most recent duty as the West / Rhode Riverkeeper evening cruise vessel for contributors.

The exterior design elements, pilothouse and salon are basically all original. The forward cabin has been redesigned to make the accommodations comfortable for a live aboard couple. The boat is complete with modern amenities like refrigeration, reverse cycle air conditioning, generator, hot water and shower. Her hull was professionally reconstructed and sheathed in fiberglass in 1983 by Hartge Yacht Yard and finished in White with Awlgrip for ease of maintenance.  This offering represents a very unusual opportunity to acquire a true "classic" which has been modernized and can be cruised with ease and will be the center of attention in any harbor, marina or Yacht Club!

BLUE MIST would be perfect for a day charter service or a couple's live aboard gliding through the yacht club on your way to dinner or simply cruising on a lovely afternoon.  Located in the Palm Beaches of Florida, she is looking for a new owner who will treasure her and appreciate her for the glorious work of art she really is.  There will always be a pride of ownership of such a unique and lovely yacht.

Hull and Deck

The hull was professionally sheathed in fiberglass in the 1983, and is 3/4"+ thick at the keel tapering to 1/4" at the toe rail ( please note that this is the thickness of the actual fiberglass which is mechanically fastened, and bonded with 5200, to the original wood hull - details available upon request). This sheathing has preserved her original hull shape, added massive significant strength, with an added benefit of a completely dry bilge and little exterior hull maintenance!

On deck, beautiful bronze hardware abounds. Painted canvas decks, and varnished mahogany trim accurately preserve the look and feel of this remarkable piece of American boatbuilding history. A large permanent awning covers the after end of the cabin house and aft deck.

The decks are traditionally constructed and are composed of painted canvas over wood. A varnished bench seat with a curved backrest is located at the stern of the vessel and is a perfect place for quiet conversation while ghosting through the anchorage on a perfect summer evening.

Master Cabin

The Head is located forward in the forepeak area of the bow and has a modern VacuFlush head system, and hot & cold pressure water at the sink and shower. Counter tops are white Formica.

Next aft are large storage drawers to starboard and a hanging locker to port and the entire area is finished “bright & white” with varnished ash and painted hull sides and overhead.

The owner's cabin was reworked from the original and now has a large athwart ship Queen berth with reading lights and outboard shelving. The original butterfly hatch and bronze ports provide excellent light and ventilation.

Pilothouse

Three short steps up the companionway ladder takes you into the wheelhouse. Port and starboard sliding doors ensure easy ingress and egress from the helm when docking. A bronze wheel controls the rudder via a mechanical linkage and the original folding cast bronze lever arm operates the transmission. The original look and feel of this beautiful helm station has been accurately maintained.

Main Salon & Galley

Storage is located aft and outboard of the seat backs and there are hanging lockers of either side of the companionway entrance located at the aft end of the saloon.

A gourmet island galley is located on center at the forward end of the saloon offering deep sinks and ample counterspace. The ship's AC/DC electrical panels are located to starboard and are cleverly concealed by a hinged varnished ash panel. Access to the tidy, well lit engine room is gained at the forward end of the galley area on both the port starboard side.
