History And Description

HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The famous Cantieri di Pisa shipyard was first established in 1945 in Tuscany. By 1956 a larger boatbuilding yard was required and created at Darsena Pisana. The appointment of Pier Luigi Spadolini as the resident naval architect elevated Cantieri di Pisa to new heights. By the early 1970s, they were producing some of the finest motor-yachts available, built to an extremely high standard with classic styling and high-end appointment.

1970s motor-yachts are highly desirable and as such DANAE is only in her third ownership. She was re-engined in 2001 with Caterpillar 3208 diesels which give a speed exceeding 20 knots plus. In 2008 a new teak laid deck was fitted and new generator installed. Systems were updated with the vessel surveyed in 2016.

Triple Mahogany hull, hard chine design with a transom stern. Teak veneered marine-ply superstructure and polished teak interior joinery.

Owner's Comments

The Owner's words:

"A masterpiece of Italian yacht design, built by the top of Tuscn craftsmanship at Cantieri di Pisa. An elegant lady to fall in love with. The current owner enjoyed her for ten years of great cruises in the Mediterranean and now sells her since he moved abroad. She is incredibly comfortable with generous living space with two large cabins and two bathrooms (one ensuite), a large salon and separate kitchen. A separate cabin for crew is accessible from the deck. She is very easy to sail and made even easier by the electronic throttle. By choice a bow thruster was never installed to avoid spoiling the solid triple plank mahogany hull. The current owner always sailed her himself. She is ideal to spend long gentle cruises around teh Mediterranean for unforgettable moments with family and friends." Signor Volpe.

The owner adds that, apart from usual maintenance, there are some small tasks to be undertaken. There are a few small areas of timber (see photos) that have been affected by the sun and which would benefit from sanding. The bilges would benefit from being fully flushed and painted when Danae next comes out of the water.

Gangway (Passerella)

Danae is fitted with a teak lattice lifting gangway (passarella) with steel stanchions and lifelines to allow access from quayside when moored stern-to in harbour. This passerella lifts easily to the near vertical for storage whilst underway.

Boarding Stairs

BOARDING STAIRS

To the port stern quarters there are a set of folding stairs that unfold and lower to water's level. These steps allow swimmers a far easier ascent out of the water than climbing a vertical ladder. In a similar vane if one has smartly attired guests (or perhaps less mobile folk) coming aboard, the stairs offer a much more refined means of stepping aboard than a ladder or scramble over lifelines.

Safety Equipment

Danae carried two life rafts (one for ten souls and one for four souls) made byEuro Vinil.

There is an EPIRB fitted on the flybridge and the locker on the flybridge contains fourteen life preservers/lifejackets (not gas operated).

The owner states the safety equipment is in good order but would require servicing. All safety items are included in the sale price.

Survey

A full survey was conducted on the 1st of July 2016 and is available for inspection. The survey document is written in Italian but any section can be explained verbally in English (or any other language). A full written translation can be produced for which there may be a fee payable.
