Nicholson 32 Mk8 - Classic Long Keel Sloop. 1971 / 6 berths / 25hp Engine.
"Canna" 1971 Nicholson 32 Mk8. For sale after 20yrs of current ownership. Lying afloat Hamble River but due for annual lift out and scrub on June 4th for 4 weeks only. She is a very seaworthy example of the classic long keeled sloop built by C&N, 369 of which were built from Mk1 to Mk10. Canna is one of the last Mk8 hulls. She is equipped with a HydroVane self steering gear, considered to be one of the best on the market. Her history during her Irish ownership in the mid 1980's includes a 5500nm trip from SW Ireland to Leningrad (now called Saint Petersburg) becoming apparently one of or perhaps the first privately owned Irish yacht to visit Russia following Glasnost. Google search "Sailing to Leningrad" will provide links to the book written of this voyage.
Purchased by myself in 1998, Canna underwent an immediate refurbishment on the hull by Osmotech at Hamble Point Marina, Hamble River, Hampshire. Her underwater hull was gelcoat peeled and one layer of fibreglass mat removed, new glass lay up and new gelcoat applied with additional gelshield coatings. All stages were inspected and approved by my appointed marine surveyor with reports on moisture readings and work quality. This was the basis from which she has subsequently been given a substantial life enhancement program replacing all major components on the yacht.
