A splendid example of this classic Thames day launch
Wayward II came onto the market for the first time in almost thirty years in 2020. At that point hull number 396 had been under cover in an idyllic boathouse near Hambleden Lock where the proprietor has kept her fairly original in fact. There were just 22 of these launches built by Andrews of Bourne End and this is one of the most original with its sliding windows. The later models such as Lady Myrtle (recently sold by HSC) have chrome surrounds to the windows.
The interior is a vision of mid century loveliness with burgundy velvet furnishings both inside and out. The external paintwork is also burgundy with varnished mahogany cabin sides. A particularly appealing feature of this Andrews day launch, and there are not two identical boats in fact, is the removable panel above the engine box aft of the forward cockpit. This enables the cabin to be completely open to the cockpit which gives a sense of space. The only fixed seating in the forward cockpit is a stowable helm seat which folds up against the side panelling. The cabin has two sofa bunks, one on either side with drawers below and a table with folding side tabs. There is no galley but there is an area with shelving where a suitcase single ring could be used (eg. an Origo cooker) and one could insert a Portapotti into the aft cockpit below one of the side lockers.
Its new owner had some hull work done and purchased a smart overall fitted cover. The petrol engine has been under the watchful eye of GMech in Henley for the past three decades so is well known to the proprietor Ivan.
