Winner of the Cuthbert Trophy at the Thames Traditional Boat Rally in 1986, built of mahogany planking above the waterline and marine plywood below with varnished decks in alternate planks of mahogany and douglas fir while the covering boards, coamings and screen frame are in mahogany, John Andrews is a splendid example of the Andrews slipper stern launch. She has a smart Oxford blue hull, blue Lloyd loom chairs and matching blue fabric on all the internal seating. A blue pram hood completes the picture while a two part full length cover may be used for longer term storage. The four cockpit glove pockets are fitted with lights and a small power point has been installed to run a portable fridge (not included in the sale) to keep the drinks at the correct temperature. Further enhancements have been added such as a decorative period fire extinguisher and the original BMC vedette 950cc engine was replaced in 2017 by a 3 cylinder Nanni diesel when the boat went in for a major overhaul to Swallowtail boatyard in Ludham Norfolk. At that time the boat was practically rebuilt from the bottom up. All invoices are available to a new owner. There is a full inventory including fitted sisal cockpit mats, fenders, mooring lines, anchor etc. BSS valid until May 2022. The boat is for sale ashore at Beale Park boat store on her bespoke trailer. A potted history : Built for P. Meyers (Meyers Rum) as Wickets III in about 1959 then restored for the first time in 1985 by Naylor of Bourne End when she was renamed John Andrews after the builder of the first slipper stern launch on the Thames. Major restoration work was carried out in 2000 after which time the boat was impeccably maintained by Henwood and Dean until sold to the current meticulous owner with a boathouse on the Norfolk Broads. He has had the boat out of the water each winter.
