DESCRIPTION

47ft. CAMPER & NICHOLSON YAWL – 1963 – Lloyds 100A1 – Lying: Dorset

MUSKETEER of STUTTON was designed and built in 1963 by the highly respected company Camper & Nicholson to Lloyds 100A1 specification for the Commodore of the Royal Ocean Racing Club Sir Peter Green. Sir Peter, from Stutton Mill House, served on HMS Musketeer as a Sub Lieutenant in 1943. In 1952 he crewed on Lutine in the Bermuda race and in 1957 was one of the founders of the Admiral’s Cup. Sir Peter, however, is probably best remembered as chairman of Lloyds.

MUSKETEER of STUTTON was raced successfully through the 1960s winning the RORC points championship at least once, before being sold in 1970 to Nigel Pattison who stationed the yacht in Chichester. In September 1973 Martin Tubby of Guernsey bought the yacht selling in December 1974 to Jonathan Trafford of Plymouth, a member of the Royal Western Y C and Royal Cruising Club. In his ownership, the rig was altered back to the original yawl configuration. In August 1987 joint owners Alan Edenborough and Michael Lewin-Harris acquired MUSKETEER. Kevan and Janet Townsend of Romsey, Hampshire bought the yacht in July 2000 running her as a sailing school. The current owner bought the yacht in 2007.  MUSKETEER has crossed the Atlantic several times and cruised to the Caribbean, Baltic, Russia, Norway, Spain, Azores and all of the UK.  During her sail training for offshore navigation, she made frequent trips to the Azores.

Bought by the present owners in 2007, she has been a great family cruising boat, a regular at classic regattas and in 2016/2017 she went to the Caribbean again to compete in the 30th Anniversary Antigua Classics regatta where she came 1st in class and received honours in the Concour’s de Regatta.  She underwent a period of refit before the Atlantic trip and has up to date, rig, machinery and systems.  A professional shipwright has overseen maintenance and repairs in the last 10 years with all the work well documented.

She is a powerful yet comfortable cruiser racer with great pedigree and history, presented in a well maintained and smart condition.  With 9 berths and plenty of volume below decks, she has space for a large racing crew but can also be easily sailed by a crew of just two.
