DESCRIPTION

Custom Aluminum Long Range Trawler designed by Ted Brewer and built in Ohio by Marine Aluminum Fabricators in 1990. That firm built 15 aluminum vessels, five of which were of this Brewer design. This boat was built of series 5000 alloy which in the marine environment does not require painting above the waterline. With twin engines and convenient access from the helm to the side decks this boat is easy to single hand. Low maintenance, economical fuel requirements and well-equipped hydraulic anchoring and davit. The redundant features on this boat are second to none and allows the boat to stay in the outer reaches for long periods of time. SNAPDRAGON has had the utmost attention and care. The documentation and level of vessel upkeep speak for themselves. This is the perfect long range trawler for going deep in to the fjords of BC and Alaska!

Highlights from the owner.....

Features I love about this boat

  • Dry stack exhaust, no salt water in exhaust system, no corroded exhaust elbows, salt water backing up into valve train of engine, etc.
  • Keel cooled on all three engines, no salt water cooling pumps, not salt water pump impellers to fail, no heat exchangers to corrode or maintain, no strainers to clog and overheat engine. Keel coolers are sections of double hull where coolant circulates against outside plate of hull. You can’t even see them on the outside of the hull, and there is zero maintenance on the exterior or interior, other than normal changing of coolant as per all engines.
  • No salt water at all used or pumped, by engines, No heat exchangers to corrode, no pump impellers
  • Day tank for gravity feed of fuel, and pump cycle counter gives super accurate fuel use tracking. Zero chance of introducing air when switching tanks, or a tank goes empty.
  • Duel racore fuel filters downstream of day tank.
  • All three engines are industrial spec, naturally aspirated, and rated for 100% continuous duty cycle at 100% of rated HP.
  • Twin keels protect props and rudders. Designed for boat to be able to stand up on keels on a tidal grid.
  • Engine driven refrigeration and freezer. Super powerful for freezing large amounts of fish. Uses zero battery power. Super heavy duty industrial compressors.
  • Hydraulic twin anchor windlass. Super powerful, Zero danger of overheating, or overloading in strong wind. Variable speed so you can slow way down to wash mud off anchor chain.
  • Super powerful hydraulic dingy lift crane.
  • Custom plate welded aluminum dingy. Super strong. Rows great.
  • Paravane outriggers. Very effective stabilization while under way, and at anchor.
  • Sea chest. All salt water comes into boat at single location, can take top off and reach in if something clogs.
  • Aquadrive system to reduce vibration and thrust forces on transmission.
  • Super stout twin rudders, attached to keels with massive aluminum bars for protection of rudder and prop. Rides like it is on rails in huge following seas. Autopilot can easily steer in all sea conditions.
  • Removable plates in cockpit deck, to allow installation of custom SS tiller handle, (Stored under dingy), to steer in the event of a hydraulic steering system failure
  • Composting head with urine outlet piped to 50 gallon holding tank. This set up is the most reliable, smell free, and easiest to empty in my opinion.
  • Huge tankage. 440 gallons diesel, 220 gallons water. Water meter on water tanks to track usage.
  • Very well executed engine room ventilation both passive through convection, and with the powerful thermostat controlled fan. Keeps engine room cool, and equipment happy.
  • High capacity 120 amp house alternator. 3 stage external regulator, and manual backup field generator in case of 3 stage failure.
  • Huge spare parts inventory. Including, replacement house alternator, 2 complete sets of all engine gaskets, spare rebuilt water pump, extra wash down pumps, refrigeration parts, pumping parts, electrical parts, dingy parts, etc.
  • Set up for fishing, crabbing, and shrimping with mounts and wiring for large pot puller, rod holders, and Scotty down riggers.
  • Great fuel economy. Around 1200 miles range at 6.5 kn. Top speed about 8.5 knots. On 3 1/2 week trip around Vancouver island using stabilizers the majority of the time, we averaged 2.5 miles/gallon. Range would be huge at 5 kn, on one engine. I don’t really know, but bet it would be well over 2000miles.
  • Easy to maneuver in tight spaces with twin engines and bow thruster.
  • Twin engine. Set up to run on one engine with other in neutral if needed for emergency, fishing, or to save fuel, with no damage to transmission.
  • Low maintenance exterior that has no exterior wood, and looks good a little dirty. No varnishing, no polishing, no waxing.
  • Outstanding engine room for a boat of this size. Easy access for routine maintenance. Easy to visually check on engines while running.
  • Full walk around decks with secure handrails. Super nice for docking, fishing, shrimping, etc.
  • Great access to water and dingy out of rear cockpit/swim step. Super beefy swim ladder for swimming or emergency use. Easy for dogs and kids to get in and out of dingy, paddle boards, kayaks, etc.
  • Dickenson heater super quiet and reliable. Uses no power, fuel is gravity fed from day tank, no pump. You could run it 24/7 for a months with zero drama. Never going to break down. No electronics, fans, glow pugs, injectors, pumps, etc to break.
  • Vesper Marine XB-8000 AIS Transpnder
  • Large dining table can easily seat 6 people. Makes into large double bed.
