Guide to the Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show is the glittering, ultra-luxury superyacht event of the year. From all across the globe the most outstanding superyachts will be on display, with shipyards using this dazzling platform to launch their very latest builds. The quays of Monaco’s Port Hercules are packed with 125 superyachts, over 40 of them highly anticipated world launches. Add to this line up almost 600 yachting business exhibitors and it’s easy to see why this is the industry’s biggest four days of the year.

Visitors to the show will be astounded by what’s on offer. If the yachts themselves aren’t enough, there is a jam-packed schedule of events, as well as parties hosted daily by exhibitors including shipyards, brokerage firms, designers, luxury lifestyle brands, nautical suppliers, and prestige cars and helicopters. The atmosphere at the Monaco Yacht Show is electric, with a genuine buzz of excitement and anticipation palpable throughout the show. For anyone wanting to step into yacht ownership, or thinking of chartering a yacht, Monaco is the place to be this September.

Get Orientated

The Monaco Yacht Show takes place in and around the principality’s Port Hercules, with exhibition areas in Darse Sud, Parvis Piscine, Quai Albert ler and Quai Antoine Ler. The brand new Starboard is a focal point exhibition lounge, with views across the entire port. There are multiple entry points in to the show, with a whole suite of transport options to get you across the huge grounds including electric buggies and water shuttles – a great way to get a water-view tour of the exhibiting yachts.

Travel Guide

Where to Stay

Rooms get booked up well in advance during the MYS, so if you haven’t already it’s best to get booking! Monaco’s hotels epitomize luxury, with a stream of Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s outside each one. From some of the most famous hotels in the world, to well-kept secrets frequented by under-the-radar celebrities, there are plenty of options packed into tiny Monaco. Our top picks for the best places to stay in Monaco are:

Hotel de Paris: Few hotels in the world are as iconic or opulent as Hotel de Paris. With a three Michelin-starred restaurant, one of the largest wine cellars in the world (over 400,000 bottles) and spectacular views across the harbour it is nothing short of divine. Which is probably why two James Bond movies were filmed here.

Fairmont Monte Carlo: The views from the rooftop terrace of this four star hotel are simply stunning. Take time out from the buzz of the show but stay within sight of the superyachts as you swim in the pool and enjoy a cocktail. A selection of excellent restaurants and a world class spa are almost as impressive as the hotel’s seafront location.

Villas and Apartments: From studio apartments tucked in the heart of Monaco old town, to sprawling villas with swimming pools, there is a huge selection of high quality accommodation to be found on websites such as Airbnb, Cap Villas and Monte-Carlo Real Estate.

Where to Eat

Like everything else it does, Monaco’s restaurants are first rate. Sublime Michelin-starred establishments grace the world’s best restaurants lists, while you’ll also find delightful family-run places who honour generations-old food traditions. Whether you want iconic bistros with perfect people-watching terraces, or sumptuous fine dining elegance, you won’t have to look very hard. Here are some of our top picks:

  • While you’re at the show enjoy lunch at Horizon restaurant in the Upper Deck Lounge or Starboard, a lounge-restaurant which offers high quality meals from breakfast onwards, with stunning views from its terrace of the show and yachts.

  • Le Louis XV: For a culinary experience you won’t forget, sample some of celebrated Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse’s masterpieces. As one of the most decorated chefs in the world, you can be assured of exquisite food which includes local seafood and Monégasque delicacies.

  • Castelroc: When you want genuine, traditional Monégasque dishes then head to Castelroc, owned and run by the same family for almost 60 years. Mediterranean flavours can be enjoyed from their beautiful terrace with views across the historic old town of Monaco.

Getting There

The closest airport is Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport, which welcomes flights from all over Europe and beyond. Taxis, buses and a train link the airport to Monaco, which takes approximately 50 minutes. Alternatively, there are numerous chauffeured vehicles for hire, or you can fly by helicopter from the airport to the show in 7 minutes.
