OWNERS COMMENTS and HISTORY
History:-
After searching for some time for the right boat, we found our Dutch Steel
Cruiser in Northern Holland. We brought her back through the canal system to
Roompot Sluis and across the North Sea to the River Orwell on the East coast
of England. We spent the next couple of years cruising the rivers of the east
coast whilst bringing her up to date. We started by having her out and having
the bottom shot blasted and re coated with a product of our choice. The last
job was to have the upholstery re covered.
We are her 3rd owners, the couple we bought her from were Dutch. They had
owned her for 15 years and had travelled for 6 months every year covering a
lot of ground. They told us they had visited countries in the Baltic, then
Germany, Poland etc etc. through the black Sea and down onto the
Mediterranean, and back through France , Belgium to Northern Holland. They
told us there was no bridge she could not go under or and river or canal she
had too much draft for. They were 75 years old when they sold her to us,
and enjoyed every moment. They didn't want to give her up but had decided
that at 75 enough was enough. We felt that they only sold her to us as we
wanted to continue as they had; otherwise we are not sure they would have
given her up!
We use her for 6 months in the summer and a couple or more 2 week stays in
the winter using her as a base to travel around from. We arrive and light the
solid fuel stove and away we go, warm as toast. The Christmas markets are
amazing.
In the summer we have travelled through Belgium, Holland, and Northern
France. We have see some amazing sights and been to some stunning places on
route.
We were looking for a cruiser that we could go anywhere in and it appears
that if you are under 15 meters long and a draft of up to 1.2m and air
draft of not more than 2.5m it fits the bill. We wanted a Cruiser that
could also cross the North Sea all be it on a nice day, but could also do
inland waterways. We have crossed the North Sea 4 times in her but keep her
in Belgium as its more cost effective diesel and time wise. It means we can
start the season earlier and finish later, giving us a longer summer
travelling period. We have been very happy with everything we have done with
her. She has nice wide decks for ease of use at sea, stay sails to make her
steadier at sea. The masts fold down within the length of her coach roof,
so are never in the way during canal or river cruising we lower them very
easily as they are tabernacled. She is always level with jetties when we pull
up so you can just step off without steps. We have even stopped on quays and
have just climbed off the back deck being level with the quay!
You can tell from the amount of time we spend on her, since our retirement
that she is very comfortable with all mod cons, making it a pleasure to use
her. When she goes we will feel the same as her previous owners, she has
always looked after us well.
We will be leaving her fully equipped ready to go, just add food and clothes.
