When my partner and I first stepped aboard Stargazer we were pleasantly surprised to see a Bluewater cruiser of this vintage, with a history of going around the world, to be in such beautiful condition.
We knew the owners had been preparing for another long-distance cruise and this yacht showed their attention to every detail. The owners change of plans makes this an enviable yacht for you. Stargazer is virtually spotless and ready for you to follow your dreams.
We were amazed when we easily stepped inside, immediately noticing the clean and bright interior. No head smell and no diesel aroma. Just gorgeous, fresh and inviting!
Stargazer has a stunning, finely finished African Mahogany interior and the Teak sole shows minimal wear. The Hydronic heating system will keep you comfortable and the lighting is Alpenglow LED. There is no doubt that this yacht has had diligent care and maintenance under the stewardship of her owners.
The custom Galley has a sparkling Stainless Steel, triple sink arrangement with dish drain inset, Hot and Cold pressure water and a Sun Energy custom Water-maker. Water capacity is 200 gallons in a fiberglass tank, located in the keel. Refrigeration and Freezer are both 12V and the shiny Stainless ENO propane stove, with oven has two burners.
An additional Galley/Saloon special feature is a small Birds eye Maple, removable table which sits securely over the Saloon table. With a good, safe work area and storage galore, this Galley would be the envy of any sea going chef!
We noticed ample grab rails, comfortably compact areas for safety at sea and fans for air circulation. The Saloon settees both very easily convert to a double on Port and a Super Single berth to Starboard. The Freezer is fitted below the bulkhead settee and again we found more than enough storage space with ease of access, for your coastal or world cruising needs.
Moving forward is the Head/Shower combination to port, the Holding tank is 30 gallons (in forepeak) a large overhead Hatch provides ventilation, with ample room for comfort and again more cubby storage.
Forward to the split V-berth with another large overhead Hatch has easy access, beautiful woodwork with sliding door storage cupboards above the berth and a unique feature.....lines that pull in tight and lock the overhead deck lazarets for security. This also leaves the outside, forward deck area free and clear of tripping hazards.
Moving aft and opposite the Galley is the Navigation station with the VHF and SSB radios, a Brass Clock and Barometer, B&G Instruments, a Stereo, plus the swing out seat for working at the large chart table.
Further aft, the starboard passageway holds more storage, the secured Microwave, Engine access, ICOM Antenna Tuner and the 90 gallon Monel Fuel tank.
Fully aft is the Master stateroom which has several berth configurations across the yacht and a small drop down Mahogany table, with the MAGNUM Inverter and one Fire Extinguisher.
If a safe, comfortable cruising yacht is in your dreams, coastal or around the world, Stargazer is your boat!
Why is this Amel a boat that many Bluewater cruisers seek?
First, Amel is a solid built boat. It is the very reason we bought her. The hard rails have never failed us. We have never had any deck to hull leaks as the Amels are a one-piece cellular construction which provides an absolutely homogeneous construction that can easily withstand much more than the wind and sea strength. The hard dodger and deep cockpit provide tremendous comfortable protection in storms. Moving about below on 2 steps down in a storm is easy enough with plenty of grab rails and tight spaces that prevent one from being thrown across the way and being injured. The abundance of storage surpasses many other boats of the same size. We wanted a boat that would protect us on the seas and not sink. Stargazer has 3 water tight bulkheads and can float if any one of these watertight bulkheads are breached. This became incredibly important to us when we started comparing boats. The many safety features of the Amel is what sold us on the true value of this yacht. The 200 gallon water tank and the 90 gallon fuel tank are almost unheard of on a boat this size. Henri Amel was ahead of his time in his design of the Amel boats. He was 90 percent legally blind and yet he had tremendous vision in what made a boat safe, functional, and low upkeep. The minimal teak on the exterior keeps varnish work down to very little. The sprayed on 2 part polyurethane below on the African mahogany which has taken on a patina effect with age is very low maintenance requiring simple washing & drying to keep it up. The floor and the 2 steps are the only thing that needs to be varnished from time to time. The abundance of natural air flow circulation below never gave mold a chance to take hold. We lived aboard Stargazer for 19 years and loved how easy she was to live in.
Why are we selling her?
The pandemic has made us rethink our future and the desire to be near family & life long friends became more important to us and so we have retired and moved back to Charleston, SC to be near all of them. We also needed way more sunshine than what the PNW dishes out throughout the year. We are very sad to let go of Stargazer. We will most certainly miss the beauty of the PNW as well as the adventurous sailing destinations to be had on Stargazer. But we recognize that this chapter of our life has run its course. We still love to sail and have friends with sailboats on the East Coast that we can so sailing with. We have many memories and stories of our life aboard Stargazer as well as many pictures along the way. We know without a doubt the next owners will love Stargazer as much as we have. Stargazer has been a faithful vessel of our sailing adventures and safeguarding our lives. She will keep the next owner as safely as she has kept us.
