You want to sail upon an Ocean? Start with an Ocean of wisdom. You want to sail upon an Ocean? Start with an Ocean of wisdom. Buy a proven performance cruising catamaran design that is meant to cross oceans, has crossed oceans, and is ready to cross oceans right now. Buy it from cruisers with more than 40 years of maritime experience (you've been reading their byline in the world's sailing magazines for years). This is a one-owner catamaran whose owners have poured their knowledge, wisdom, and oversight into Ocean's build, equipment, care and maintenance.

Why is there so much wisdom in this purchase? Dolphins are made for the sea. They have extraordinary seakeeping qualities. They are smart cats. Dolphins have fine easily-driven hulls with tremendous reserve buoyancy. They have vacuum-bagged vinylester and Divinycell construction with ten watertight bulkheads, six watertight cabin soles, and a continuous flanged and glassed hull-to-deck joint. Ocean has skeg-protected SailDrives and rudders. She has a great stance on the water with excellent balance. Engines are placed well forward and tanks are carried low near the center of motion where they ought to be. Dolphins are fast and efficient. They have strong daggerboards for excellent pointing ability. Raise the boards off the wind to remove parasitic drag for even more performance. Folding props (and a watermaker) keep drag low and speeds high on all points. Dolphins can average 9.5 knots on long passages and often safely see the teens. Ocean has a tall mast, self-tacking sail plan, strong, intelligently-placed deck hardware (including an electric self-tailing winch for the main halyard and more), proven over-sized ground tackle, a protected helm, wide secure decks, and she has been meticulously thought-out for double-handing. You will enjoy her custom, unsinkable, 11' sailing/rowing/electric dinghy as you explore communities and anchorages throughout the world. Ocean enjoyed a $100,000 refit just last year including four new salon windows, all new deck hatches, batteries, cushions, a thorough survey, extensive engine and SailDrive service, and more. . .

Ocean isn't just structure and seakeeping; take a look inside. She has a beautiful and comfortable owner's version interior. The interior is bespoke and it has all of the touches that make for an especially comfortable and practical cruising home. What makes it so special? Two independent office spaces, two private cabins (one a complete owner's hull), a large convertible dinette for entertaining (or a rest area at sea for the on or off-watch), a practical light filled galley up (at the center of motion) equipped with a top-of-the-line stove, dedicated pantry, dual-sinks, 3-drawer refrigeration and fantastic storage, and two large heads with separate showers. Ocean is equipped with solar (1056 watts), batteries (1260 amp hours worth) and systems that make her truly independent of her engines for days if not weeks at a time. Ocean is warmed by hydronic diesel-fired heat, easily ventilated, easily enclosed, and cooled in her air-conditioned master cabin.

This is a wise choice for a cruising catamaran. Buy the best Dolphin 460 ever built - Ocean. And buy her in one of the most beautiful places on Earth - Bay of Islands New Zealand - where you can cost-effectively add your own touches and explore for nearly two years before reaching up to the rest of the South Pacific and the world. -The seller is a sailmaker of 15 years standing. On Ocean they worked with North Sails as a “beta tester” to develop performance catamaran sails for passagemaking.
