Perhaps the original “deck salon”, the enormously popular Irwin 52 Center Cockpit has been coveted by many a sailor over the years and the demand for ones in good condition continues to grow.

What’s not to like—Freya has a spacious salon with tons of natural light, excellent overhead ventilation, an enormous master suite with walk-around queen, a master head with shower and tub, three private cabins plus a crew berth, three fully functional heads, superb access to the main engine and mechanicals, an excellent galley with stand-up fridge/freezer, an additional large freezer, tons of storage, huge water, fuel and propane tank capacity, a 62gph watermaker, a 9KW generator and three air conditioners. You will be hard-pressed to find a cruising vessel with a more appealing interior.

Unlike most center cockpits, which tend to be cramped, Freya’s cockpit is large with enough room to lie down in and visibility from the helm is superb. The full enclosure is a boon when the weather turns nasty. Her cutter, ketch sail plan allows for almost unlimited sail options depending on wind and sea conditions.

Freya is a heavy displacement vessel with a sea-kindly motion, but performance was also in designer Ted Irwin’s DNA and Irwin 52s have earned the respect of sailors around the world for excellent offshore performance.

“I have logged a lot of miles delivering 52s and I am always impressed with how well they sail.”

John Kretschmer—Longtime professional delivery captain and author

Irwin 52s produced from 1982 and newer were much better built than their predecessors. The bulkheads and much of the furniture were fiber glassed to the hull reducing flex and substantially improving their ruggedness. With the reduction of pan usage, there is better access to wiring, plumbing and inside areas of the hull when needed. These models have held up very well over time and proven themselves as robust blue water cruising boats.

Freya is owned by a very experienced couple with extensive knowledge on systems and how to properly outfit a cruising boat for extended periods away from the dock.
