DESCRIPTION

Blue Water Marine Consultants 70 ft Aluminium cutter rigged yacht.

Built in 1995 in the USA, and launched in 1996 this yacht in well equipped for blue water cruising, benefiting from a generator, water maker and a well balanced cutter rig set up.

She has 3 cabins, including a master double cabin forward, and two further cabins in the aft section of the yacht.

The boat was built to specification approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

Construction

The hull is of round bottom, semi-plumb bow, inward counter stern, and includes a lead ballast within an aluminum shell.

The hull was designed to specifications approved by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and had originally been certified by ABS for blue water sailing. The ABS certification has not been renewed, this not being a requirement.

All plating hull and deck plating is 1⁄4” aluminum. Transverse framing is located on 1000 mm centers (39”) with half frames every 500 mm (20”) in way of the keel. Two CVK (Center Line Vertical Keels) / girders run fore and aft forming a ridge-type structure. Stringers are located on 280 mm (11”) centers and run fore and aft the length of the vessel.

The exterior of the hull is filled with vinylester filler and painted US Paint Awlgrip finished in Royal Blue.

The Hull to Deck Joint is a welded integral part of the hull and deck and is watertight. Welded to this joint is a cap rail-bulwark which extends approximately 4 inches high, providing a secure edge for footing.

The hawser fairleads penetrate this cap rail to cleats, which are set inboard.

The bow pulpit is constructed of 3/8” 316 Stainless Steel and securely attached to the bow and deck of this vessel. This structure is designed for severe anchoring conditions. It holds the Bruce type 175 lbs main anchor. The chain locker is located forward, between two watertight aluminum bulkheads and carries the anchor chain for the main anchor.

The hull features sixteen port lights of 30” x 9” with 1⁄2” Lexan lenses throughbolted around the perimeter, 8 port holes each in the port and starboard hull.

There is an extended rub-rail on port and starboard side protecting port lights and topsides.

The aluminum deck is sprayed with Awlgrip Snow Wihte nonskid.

All of the deck fittings are securely fastened to the deck with welded backing plates, which are tapped and inserted with stainless threads.

Most equipment is isolated from the aluminum with UHMW. No fasteners penetrate the deck within any of the living quarters, providing a positively dry interior.

The lifeline stanchions of 1 1/4" stainless tubing are press-fitted into a UHMW bushing, which is recessed into a welded aluminum tube fitting below deck. The railing is of lifelines with top line at 32" above deck. A tubular railing also wraps around the bow pulpit and around the base of the mast.

The deck is equipped with fourteen Bomar Offshore hatches, twelve Suncor 15" stainless horn cleats, eight 2" scuppers. Limber holes are provided for, to allow efficient drainage of the vessels weather deck.

The weather deck has 14 built-in vents, namely Dorade Hood 4" diameter stainless, protected against damage by a chromed tubular frame around each.

The rear deck encompasses the fully enclosed pilot house, the open cockpit with ample seating around same, the two helm stations and the arch.

The transom door which folds down to serve as stairs to the swim platform, and the swim platform itself. The lower struts of the arch also hold one inflatable life raft, the outboard motor for the dinghy and the davits.

The superstructure consists of the aluminum pilothouse with wraparound windows giving a panoramic view. Two hatches on top of the house along with two aft sliding windows and the aft doors provide ventilation. The windows and winged entrance doors are of 1⁄2” acrylic, wrap-around grab rails, fittings and hardware complete.

The cockpit area also houses port sail locker, the propane tank locker, the two helm seat lockers, the cockpit hatch covers and the two access hatches to the engine room. The propane tanks are new and the attached valves and hoses are in good condition.

The transom also has a port and starboard access hatch to the steering gear compartment. These hatches are accessible from the swim platform and the hatch covers are bolted watertight. The compartment was also used as storage for scuba bottles and diving support equipment.

There is age related blistering and corrosion on the aluminium as you would expect on a boat of this age.
