DESCRIPTION

X-Yachts X-99 Sensibly priced for a turn-key race winning package: £21,950

The X-99 model was introduced in 1985 and was one of X-Yachts most successful models with 605 units built.

This example has had an extensive refit in 2015, optimising this yacht to be competitive in IRC racing; has a mast and standing rig that has only seen one regatta's use since installation and internal detailing including extensive use of carbon fibre in the bulkheads to minimise weight, while the hull's original polyester gelcoat below the waterline has been replaced with a carbon sheathing in glass thereby enhancing the hill skin's stiffness.

Copy of a May 2019 survey can be made available.

The components to enable this X99 to be returned to original spec have been retained so that class racing is not precluded, but we envisage that this superbly 'sorted' example will really really excite those wanting to race in IRC fleets in a very competitive boat at not too great an expense.

History And Construction

The X Yachts X99 was designed in the mid 80's by the acclaimed Danish designer, Niels Jeppesen, and over a long production run around 605 units were built.  At that time there was increasing demand for a 10 meter yacht with similar qualities to the smaller X-79. A One Design Class yacht fast enough to beat existing yachts of similar size, including ¾ ton racing yachts, yet comfortable enough to allow for occasional or extended cruising.

The prototype of the X-99 was launched in 1985, and within one week a staggering 100 boats were sold to clients who had paid a small deposit based on a draft proposal test sailed hull #001 and signed the actual order. No other boat, before or since has enjoyed such a spectacular launch. Within the first 2 years the X-99 had established fleets in Denmark Germany, Switzerland and Holland. This list of accredited National fleets soon grew to include the UK, Hong Kong, and most recently Sweden.

This example is hull number 211 built in 1988.
In 2015, a very extensive refit was carried out which included:
A new modified custom rudder similar to a Farr Design, this alone transformed the handling.
The hull was professionally faired & finished, epoxied and then coated in Resene Durepox Epoxy Urethane which is a hard polished coating designed for racing boats
New seacocks
New deck organisers
New clutches & jammers
New flush cleats & water/fuel deck fillers
In 2016, a new Alloy Jon Mast was fitted with new standing rigging and new spectra running rigging.
PBO Rigging to the backstays.
IRC Rating: 0.984
Fastest boat speed achieved is reported as 17 Knots!
