Hull # 24.  Now called Fridays Child previously Wight Huntsman, Big Ed III and originally Tufter.

The Fairey Huntsman 31 was the brain child of Chief Designer Alan Burnard and the hulls were made from multiple layers of Agba veneers, hot-moulded in an autoclave.

All Fairey Huntsman 31s are renowned for their soft and dry ride which is why they are highly desired when they rarely come onto the market.

Fridays Child is one of the later production models, and benefits from the racing experience of earlier boats by having extra Agba layers to the bottom (nine in all) and longer hogs/longitudinals (engine bearers) that extend into the fore-cabin to significantly stiffen the hull.

A few years ago, well-respected shipwright Fred Kemp did a 'no corner overlooked' renovation to the woodwork (including teak deck and cabin roof) and current owner Ben Curtis took on the mechanical aspects of the renovation so in 2016 fitted:

Cummins Marine B series 6 cylinder 6 litre turbo-charged marine diesels rated at 180hp (NB not new)
Rebuilt Borg Warner gearboxes
New R&D Marine drive plates
New R&D Marine AVM’s
New 4” exhaust systems
New Fridge
New Heads
New Racor fuel filter/separators
New prop shafts
Stern glands with new seals
New Cutlass Bearings
All the skin fittings are new
New Raymarine echo-sounder
New DSC Radio
New Batteries and chargers
Re-chromed deck fittings
New fuel and water plumbing in the engine room - all new hose clips
New wiring throughout (anode wiring is 6mm tinned)
New raw water strainers with clear lids
New cockpit canopy by Jim Baum - spray hood and bimini configurations
New Morse control and new cables.

This is an excellent boat throughout and a viewing is highly recommended.  Now ashore in Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.

Additional Information

Construction.

Fairey Marine constructed the hulls of these boats from layers of Agba laminates that were glued and then cured in an autoclave using steam and pressure,  Thus the Resourcinal glue permeated the layers of wood to give strength, rigidity and a longer life.  The boats were then completed within the Fairey Marine site at Hamble Point, Southampton, England.

Fairey Owners Club

The Club was founded in 1986 and has grown to over 300 owners and enthusiasts who admire the design, performance and style of these premier British boats.  The Club holds regular rallies and events with a very active Forum where members can input advice about maintenance and recommend specialist marine engineers, surveyors and insurers.
