2006 Switch 55 - owner version, totally refit and ready for a second circumnavigation.
In the past two years Fantazia has undergone a total refit. The owner of the yacht has spent over $175,000 and we have the bills on file to prove it. She has a total new paint job of her decks and hulls, new standing rigging, new saildrives, recent sails and on and on. For very serious inquiries we will be happy to send a detailed list of what has been spent on her.
I am quite familiar with this brand as we were the first agents for Switch starting in 2001, and I crewed on one of the first Switch 51's across the Atlantic. The Switch 55 is a stretched, higher performance version of the 51. Besides being faster and more comfortable, the extra length adds more storage in the front hatch compartments for all the stores and family toys. It is a real benefit. Designed by VPLP to be a state of the art performance cruiser, these are dual dagger-boarded, vinyl-ester foam core yachts, lovingly built at the southern French shipyard known as Sud Composites. (That yard is now owned and operated by Swiss Cats.)
In terms of performance, the Switch 55 is considerably lighter and faster than the Catana 52 of this vintage, or the Catana 58. She is very happy to sail in the low to mid-teens without being pressed and sails to windward like a bandit. To my mind, the Switch 51 and 55 were the best balanced performance cruising multihulls of their time. More space inside and much better payload capacity than the Outremer's and more speed than the Catana's.
As most consumers looking for a performance cat have learned, these are very costly yachts to produce. Replacement value for the Switch 55 today would be well over 1.7 million dollars as she is equipped. What makes Fantazia special is that her owner just went to town on her - she is a turn key performance catamaran for the discriminating buyer who wants a lot more performance than he can get from existing charter cat designs. Fantazia has already proven herself with one circumnavigation and is ready for her second.
Despite her outstanding performance, she offers those aboard a high level of comfort, with sumptuous interior finishes, spacious cabins and a large galley and salon, with dual seating areas. Her port hull is dedicated to the owner's suite. She has been very well equipped for extended cruising, with twin gensets, air conditioning, water maker, washing machine, satellite communications and much more.
Her skipper is an experienced blue water passage maker who searched far and wide for a year, before settling on the Switch 55. His criteria was for performance, comfort and safety, with the ability to sail short-handed. The Switch 55 match these criteria exactly. Owner's recently discovered medical condition has ended his seven year cruising adventures and creates a rare opportunity for a new owner.
