DESCRIPTION

DIFFERENCE is an Alibi 54, semi-custom, hi-performance cruising catamaran. One from a fleet of nine built, designed and built by a French catamaran designer in Thailand. She is a cutting edge catamaran for the sailor seeking a yacht with the beauty and performance of a fine sports car, but which still has the room and appointments for a family cruise. At just under 12 tons dead weight, with dual, asymmetric push-button operated dagger-boards, all carbon fiber rotating rig and square top mainsail, and all of the creature comforts, she can easily exceed wind-speed, yet her handling is sure, predictable and smooth in all weather – and she has been all-weather tested including transiting a fierce November North Atlantic gale 400 miles off Bermuda on her way to the Caribbean. She was designed and built by a racer, but for performance cruising minded clientele. A fine balance of performance, safety, luxury and modern aesthetics.

Difference was commissioned and has been owned since new by her meticulous owner who has invested approximately double the original cost in maintaining, upgrading and perfecting her. She has never been chartered, has always had a professional captain, sailed the Caribbean, Bahamas, US east coast and is currently in Grenada. Last year, Volvo installed two brand new Volvo 40 HP engines on her due to a recall, and her owner decided to take her to Martinique to install larger, under-hung rudders to replace her smaller lifting cassette design. Other Alibi 54 owners have done the same thing and reported great satisfaction, so her owner invested the additional $40,000 to get this done.

After close consultation with the owner over the years, the realization of the importance in re-powering this Alibi 54 to diesels after repeated problems with her original electric engines was paramount in the value of the vessel. The amount of money spent on Difference to bring her into top form has been enormous, as such that I am quite convinced she is the finest Alibi ever built. It would cost no less than $2 million to replace Difference. Her entire electrical system was upgraded in the U.S. to the highest standards, and indeed anything on the yacht that was not working perfectly the owner simply opened up his wallet to correct. Having sailed on Difference for two extended vacations, I am always impressed with how well she sails and lives. The right buyer for this catamaran is performance oriented and experienced enough to value all of the extensive investments made to her by her most fastidious owner. She will represent an exceptional value for the truly experienced performance catamaran sailor. Her carbon rig and beams alone would cost at least $450,000 to replace!

If you like speed, if you want a stunningly beautiful looking catamaran, Difference represents exceptional value. Call us to see her. She will survey very well. New North 3DL sails, Kevlar rigging, new LED lighting, new BG, Furuno and Maretron electronics.....need I go on!!! If you want an Aston Martin catamaran that has been lovingly maintained, Difference has to be the best value high performance catamaran on the market in the world today.
