DESCRIPTION

The Hallberg-Rassy 53 was The pinnacle of Bluewater passage making yachts in her day and as Hull designs have evolved the Hallberg-Rassy 53's characteristics and quality of build remain unrivalled for comfort and ease of management under sail. The Hallberg-Rassy 53 was designed from the outset for push-button sailing and her fully hydraulic powered furling rig can be set reefed and furled away without leaving the helm position.

BRIGHTSIDE is number 86 of the 88 Hallberg-Rassy 53s built and as such is one of the latest examples available of this exceptional sailing yacht. BRIGHTSIDE remains in the ownership of her commissioning owner and in recent years has avoided the ravishes of UV by cruising latitudes up to the Arctic Circle and wintering undercover.

BRIGHTSIDE is currently on the west coast of Sweden where she is available to view, she is EU VAT paid and should be of particular interest to anyone looking for an adventurous sailing yacht that is comfortable to spend time aboard on passage in harbour and at anchor.

Accommodation

Traditional Hallberg-Rassy finished in mahogany throughout treated with a silk finish varnish. The insulated hull is lined with mahogany slats to give an air barrier and ventilation between end grain joinery and soft furnishings combined with unvarnished and drilled bunk boards all areas of the accommodation are adequately ventilated. Saloon upholstery in Hard wearing Alcantara with complimentary fabric in the sleeping cabins, curtains to all windows and deck hatches in Beige. BRIGHTSIDE  is fitted with Clima 230v 50Hz Airconditioning throughout and Wbasto blow air heating.

V berth cabin forward with large opening hatch to foredeck and spacious stowage for sails under the berth. One hanging locker plus vanity with shelved locker aft of berth, 4 lockers over berth 2 to port and 2 to starboard. one large locker over the foot of the berth.

The starboard cabin comprises two good-sized bunk berths, spacious stowage under the lower bunk, three lockers outboard of the top bunk and a full height hanging locker with shelves above.

The fwd heads and shower compartment offers a shower stall with a plexiglass door and a spacious wet locker. Wash hand basin in a Corian counter marine toilet with a holding tank. In addition to the wet locker, there is good stowage above and below the counter, fixed ventilation from Roca vent in deckhead and opening port in coach roof.

The saloon has an "L" shaped settee berth on the starboard side with a folding leaf table to starboard of the centreline there is stowage behind and below the seating with lockers above. To port there are two comfortable armchairs there is stowage between, beneath and behind with lockers above. There is a large opening deck hatch with Ocean Air Skyscreen and there are 4 large opening ports in the coach roof. A 20" LCD TV is installed with a Bose 123 audio system in the saloon.

Chart table to starboard, double navigators seat with stowage under. chart table suitable for a half-folded Admiralty chart with space for flush-mounted navigation and communication instruments ahead and outboard. Chart stowage under lift up lid of table with drawers under. outboard and aft of the navigator's position there is a comprehensive 12v DC distribution panel with gauges for water and fuel and meters to monitor and control battery state.

The Galley is to port and aft of the saloon leading into the walkthrough to the aft cabin with Corian work surface inboard and outboard, Double stainless steel sink inboard with stowage and dishwasher beneath stowage and microwave oven above. Gimballed, three burner hob with oven and grill in the outboard counter, efficient top-opening fridge and convenient front opening day fridge. locker space above with drawers and lockers under. opening port in coach roof outboard over galley and opening port inboard to the cockpit.

Aft cabin with double berth to starboard and large single to port seating between and stowage in lockers above, vanity with shelved lockers and drawers to port, two hanging lockers opposite access to the engine room and additional locker space in forward part of cabin.

Aft heads and shower compartment with separate shower stall behind Plexiglass screen access to the washing machine and water maker from the shower stall. wash hand basin in Corian counter with lockers above and below. Electric marine toilit with freshwater flush option. fixed ventilation from Roca vent in deckhead and opening port in coach roof.

The Engine room has walk-in access between the galley and the aft cabin. most of the machinery of the yacht is kept in this soundproofed area with a separate bilge to avoid machinery noise and smells in the main accommodation.

Mechanical Systems

Volvo TAMD 41B 146HP main engine with Hydraulic gearbox and Aqadrive, the Aquadrive absorbs the drive loads so the engine can be mounted on soft resilient engine mounts reducing noise and vibration through the accommodation when underway. Drive is transmitted through a 2 speed Gori propeller with overdrive for extended passages making under engine when there is no wind. An Ambassador Rope stripper is fitted to the shaft ahead of the folding propeller  and a 10HP bowthruster is fitted in a tunnel.

Fuel capacity is approx 1150Ltrs in three stainless steel tanks double primary fuel filters are fitted and there is a manual fuel pump to sample fuel from a sump below the draw pipes in the main fuel tank. there is a separate electric oil change pump with waste oil stowage in the engine room.

230v shore connection with shore power lead and 50A galvanic isolator, upgraded 24v 100Amp engine-driven alternator in addition to the standard 12v 60Amp alternator. Westerbeke, 6kw, 230v 50Hz, low revving Diesel generator. 1 x 12v 25Amp Mastervolt battery charger,  2 x 24volt 50Amp matervolt battery chargers. Mastervolt 24volt Mass Sine inverter 2500watt

The main service battery bank is 675Amp/hr @ 24volt with an additional 12volt service bank of 450 amp/hrs for navigation and communication equipment and convenience charging from 12v outlets. Engine and generator have a dedicated starting bank. all banks are charged when the engine or generator are running and all service banks are charged when the shore power is connected.

water is stored in 2 x stainless steel tanks of approx 510ltrs each the tanks are fed separately from fillers ion deck and from the watermaker, each tank has a dedicated freshwater pressure pump, the pumps are switchable and pressurise a single freshwater system to all services through manifolds in the engine room. Holding tanks for black water are installed at both heads compartments, they can be emptied at sea or pumped out from outlets on deck.

Spars & Sails

BRIGHTSIDE has a full push-button hydraulic furling rig, she is a masthead sloop rigged with a triple spreader, silver anodised, Selden, Furl-in main mast, a hydraulic furling head stay and a fixed and hydraulic furling inner forestay. tension in the inner forestay is maintained by diamond stays and running backstays. A Navtec control panel in the cockpit manages the hydraulic boom vang and hydraulic backstay tensioner. twin whisker poles are mounted on twin tracks on the front of the mast. Standing rigging was replaced in 2016

Deck Equipment

A deep cockpit, set 2/3rds of the deck length from the bow, is protected by a solid "Hardtop" of moulded GRP with teak laid deck on top and toughened glass windows for good visibility from a secure protected helm position. Solid teak laid to the aft deck, side decks, foredeck, coach roof and cockpit, Solid teak caprail to short bulwark around the perimeter of the decks, solid teak handrails in coach roof and hardtop for secure movement around deck.
Double stainless steel guard wires with gates port and starboard, stainless steel pullpit and double pushpits with gate access for passarelle and bathing platform between. twin bow roller at the stemhead with bow stowed anchor to starboard with chain to the electric windlass and warping drum on the foredeck. Simpson Davits fitted for tender outboard bracket on pushpit and stainless steel utility pole for Radar and various antenna.
