The Rambler is essentially a larger version of the Wanderer Class and was designed for Humphrey Barton after his trans-Atlantic in Vertue 35. Planked in teak and varnished from new, she has a very large cockpit which is great for sailing with a group. Spacious interior with enormous headroom and 4 good size berths, she feels like a much bigger boat down below. Well cared for and upgraded, she is a solid and very comfortable family cruising boat.
Wooden Ships Comments
The Laurent Giles Rambler Class was first built in 1963 for Humphrey Barton, famous for his voyage across the Atlantic in Vertue 35. The Rambler is effectively a large Vertue with more volume, space, comfort and capability.
This boat was built by B.P Miles of Poole in 1963.
The design offers a stable and comfortable platform for long distance short handed sailing, perhaps not the fastest boat around but she will certainly look after her crew in comfort. The cockpit has been improved hugely with the conversion to wheel steering giving more useable space when sailing and the overhanging coachroof deck gives a nice sheltered area at the front of the cockpit for crew when sailing. The interior is very spacious with more headroom than most boats twice her size, good length berths and a separate heads.
She is a superb family cruising boat that has been well cared for and was built to a high standard in the beginning
