Update (02/08/2018): Major price reduction of $13,000! Owner wants this boat to sell ASAP! All reasonable offers will be considered.
The Irwin 38 MK1 is a spacious and comfortable cruising sailboat with a large center cockpit that can easily accommodate five adults. Please read the Full Specifications for complete details on this vessel.
This particular example has a beautiful & clean/bright interior that has been thoughtfully maintained and improved. The interior woodwork, headliner, counters, and sole are in excellent condition and show no sign of the age/wear seen on other boats of similar age. The FWD head has been removed to create a dedicated shower (or wet locker) compartment but the original plumbing and holding tank are intact so the head can be re-installed if desired.
This boat also features an Offshore Marine Labs (modular) watermaker, like-new stainless steel portlights throughout, newer canvas (bimini, cushions, etc). Sails appear serviceable and are reasonably crisp. Canvas and cushions are in good condition throughout. The folding boarding ladder (AFT) and dingy davits make for simple & easy dinghy launching & recovery. The boat has been on the hard for a couple of years but the owner reports that the engine (Perkins 4.108) turns over smoothly.
Accommodations:
On deck, the large center cockpit design provides plenty of space for lounging and entertaining while keeping the crew dry & comfortable when underway. The sloop rig and center cockpit are also ideal for short-handed sailing. Wide side decks with no obstructions (chainplates, cleats, etc) allow easy access FWD and AFT. A large lazarette on the AFT deck provides ample storage for life jackets, fenders, docklines, etc. The propane locker is located on the AFT deck as well.
Moving below, the companionway sill is unobtrusive while preventing water from the cockpit from washing down below. The forward-sliding hatch makes the five-step (non-skid) companionway easy to climb.
All the way forward is the guest stateroom (v-berth) with cushion filler panel insert and access to the chain locker. There is a large hanging locker and several drawers for storage. The forward head/shower is en-suite but the head has been removed. The saloon features comfortable settees to PORT and STBD and a fold-out dinette with storage.
Navigation is AFT of the saloon to STBD with a large desk and comfortable (forward-facing) seating. The AFT head is located behind the NAV desk with walk-through access to the Master Stateroom.
The galley is amidships to PORT with lots of counter space and numerous storage lockers. The sink and counter-tops have all been tastefully upgraded. The galley features a HilleRange 3 burner (gimballed) gas stove/oven, propane controls, built-in microwave, and a top-loading refrigerator with freezer compartment.
Continuing aft, the Master stateroom has a queen size berth with two large hatches above and opening port lights all-around for great natural ventilation. There are numerous drawers, shelves, and hanging lockers providing ample storage for extended cruising and/or dockside living.
The engine, transmission, and stuffing box are easily accessed for maintenance.
Notes:
There is no generator installed on the boat. There is no dinghy/outboard included with the boat. The original centerboard has been removed and discarded.
