Greece: One of the top three most popular destinations worldwide to charter a yacht, whether it’s crewed yacht charter or a bareboat yacht charter, Greece possesses a unique mix of historical significance, beautiful coastline, and consistent cruising conditions for new and experienced sailors alike. As a result of this popularity, there are many options when it comes to choosing the right charter boat, meaning we’ll always be able to find you a great deal for your sailing holiday. The many different Greek islands provide an ever-changing landscape to explore your charter holiday, their proximity to one another means if you charter a motor yacht you can visit a number of these famous charter destinations on the same day.

Athens & Saronic Gulf

We strongly advise you to spend a day or two in Athens prior to embarking on your charter in this region, in order to view its many attractions such as the Apterous Nike temple, the Dionysus Theatre, the Odeon of Atticus and the House of Music, which should not be missed. Piraeus, Athens' harbour, is one of the largest shipping junctions in the Mediterranean, as it has been since ancient times. It’s made quite a name for itself amongst travellers to Greece, due to its attractive nightlife and its romantic seafood restaurants and taverns. The coast from Piraeus to Kalamaki is lined by high-rise apartment buildings. Saronic islands

The Saronic islands are made up of some brilliant sailing destinations including, Spetses, Poros, Aegina, Hydra, and Agistri. The closest chains to Athens and well established, they make an ideal destination for those looking to experience quintessential Greece. Well supplied by the mainland, there are plenty of wonderful seafood restaurants and local tavernas to sample without having to travel large passages from island to island or your well-connected home port.  Poros is great for sailing, hydra has some amazing architecture, Spetses stands out for the elegant mansions, and Aegina is ideal for family vacations. 

 

 

Cyclades Islands

The Cyclades are an island group situated in the Aegean Sea southeast of mainland Greece. They are one of the island groups which constitute the Aegean archipelago Their name refers to the islands around ("cyclic") the sacred island of Delos. The largest island of the Cyclades is Naxos, however, Syros is the most populated. The Cyclades include about 220 islands, the major ones being Andros, Delos, Ios, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Syros, and Santorini. The area prevailing wind during the summer months is the infamous Meltemi blowing from the N-NW. It is first felt in June and becomes stronger through July, August, and September when it can reach force 8. It dies down in October. The summer months are sunny and warm, average temperatures are 25 deg C and can get up to 35 deg C. Popular with families and younger charter groups alike, the region is most famous for its crystal blue water and vibrant nightlife, some of which is world-class!

Dodeconese

The Dodecanese meaning literally "twelve islands" are a group of 12 larger plus 150 smaller Greek islands in the south-eastern Aegean Sea, just off the coast of Turkey of which 26 are inhabited. This island group generally defines the eastern limit of the Sea of Crete. Rhodes has been the area’s dominant island since antiquity. Of the others, Kos, Patmos, and Leros have been the most prominent and are most often visited by charterers. Historically, Rhodes island is famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The medieval old town of the city of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage site. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. The name of the US state of Rhode Island is thought to be based on this island. Surely one to moor up and disembark at for a day f exploring the land before returning to your private boat just offshore. 

Ionian

Light winds and plenty of sunshine make the Ionian islands one of the most popular cruising regions in the world. As a distinct historic region, the date to the centuries-long Venetian rule, which preserved them from becoming part of the Ottoman Empire and created a distinct cultural identity with many Italian influences. Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, and Zakynthos make up the most notable Ionian islands. These areas are popular with charters guests for good reason, apart from the aforementioned Italian aspect to the cuisine the bays that have been sculpted by the Ionian Sea for thousands of years are shallow and teeming with life, azure waters create picture-postcard settings for sensational sunsets. Sporades

The Sporades is a group of 24 islands occupying the center of the North Aegean, they have served as a halfway point for many intrepid travellers over the years who were making the crossing to Turkey. As a result of this passing trade, they have been built around strong fishing communities which have resulted in the Sporades having some of the best fish restaurants in the Aegean. There are four main islands, each with their own special characteristics. The most popular Skiathos is frequented by many younger travellers, Skopelos and Alonissos have more of a family atmosphere yet their beaches are just as appealing. The least known island of Skyros may just be the most beautiful. It has a picturesque capital town, secluded beaches, and simply stunning sightseeing.
