DESCRIPTION

The Catalina Morgan 440 were voted the Best Production Cruiser from 40 to 45 Feet in Cruising World Magazine 2005 because they are comfortable, roomy and affordable. Gerry Douglas, designer of the Catalina Morgan 440 said ‘We envisioned a manageable rig and an aft cockpit with a raised deck saloon that was large. All equipment and ergonomics were specifically selected and designed for comfort and ease of handling’. The varnished teak bulkheads, cabinets and joinery are a testament to Catalina quality. Numerous opening hatches make the interior modern, light and airy. Pipe Muh Bligh handles well, is responsive and easy to sail. The cockpit is extremely comfortable with good all-round viability with all sailing lines leading aft. All mast control lines are led through rope clutches to a two-speed electric power winch on the cabin top. The deck is well thought out with recessed anchor locker, electric windlass with foot switch and a sturdy anchor roller, midship cleats and stainless steel grab handles on the cabin roof. A swim platform with ladder gives easy access into water. Pipe Muh Bligh has only ever had one owner and has been meticulously maintained. She is in the Caribbean and ready to go on her next adventure.

Accommodation

Accommodations includes 6 berths in 2 cabins. There is full standing (6ft+) headroom and good ventilation throughout. Starting forward and behind the chain locker is the forward stateroom with centre line queen berth. Ensuite head to starboard with separate shower stall, vanity and toilet. Two hanging lockers are opposite to port. The raised salon with a huge U-shaped dinette to starboard can convert to an additional queen sized berth. To port is a long settee with the navigation station aft. Both seating areas offer additional storage under and outboard. Aft of the dinette is a wonderful U-shaped Sea Galley with plenty of storage & counter space, Dickinson Marine Mediterranean 3-Burner Propane Stove w/Oven (new 04/2018), Microwave Oven (110V), Dometic CRX-1110 Front Loading 12V Refrigerator/freezer (new 08/2018), double stainless sinks, Granite Kote moulded counter tops & back splashes.
The aft stateroom with queen size berth also benefits from the ensuite head with vanity, toilet and shower combination. Aft of the head there are a number of large cedar lined lockers. A unique feature is the doorway from the aft stateroom to a compartment that is also accessed from the cockpit. This is known as the Bosun's locker, which could be used for storage or to house a washer/dryer combo and has the room for an additional berth or work station for the extended cruiser.

Construction

Built in 2005 by Catalina Yachts A high strength structural foam and aluminium grid system attaches the fibreglass hull to the one piece moulded fibreglass liner and supports the engine and tanks, while structuring the mast step and keel
attachment area. All transverse rigging loads are borne by the aluminium and fibre glass grid system and not by the hull. An important feature for offshore sailing is the watertight collision bulkhead.
July 2018 haul-out to paint the bottom, replace the PSS drip-less seal and the cutlass bearing.

Registration

Pipe Muh Bligh has a United States registration and there are no known outstanding encumbrances.

The joy of cruising is visiting beautiful destinations. In order to fully enjoy the view in the 440, the main cabin sole is raised to provide great visibility from the large, wide, cabin windows.
