This Structurmarine Open 45 was developed for the 2005 Ostar by the RWYC in the 40 to 50ft class. She has been designed to meet The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), except in the modified rules.
Atlantix Xpress has participated at the 2004 Quebec/ St-Malo Transatlantic race for testing and several other offshore races
She is powered by a Volvo Penta MD 2030 27hp diesel engine with 120S-E saildrive and folding propeller.
This Olivier Petit designed Structurmarine Open 45 features a three spreader Bergstrom-Rider self-standing Sparcraft aluminium mast and an Alantix carbon boom with rod rigging.
There is a rod rigging forestay and removable textile baby stay for the jib; also a bowsprit for the spinnaker and gennaker.
Winches include two Harken winches on the mast, one Harken winch on the boom for reefing and three Harken winches in the cockpit for the main sail and headsail sheets.

The hull of this Structurmarine Open 45 racing yacht is built with a 3mm 5383 aluminium alloy on sides and deck and 12mm on keel area. The keel has an isolated lead bulb (2 tons). The cockpit and roof are made from composite foam by Atlantix composite.
Inside she is made up of four water tight compartments each with independent pump system by hand or by main engine driven pump. There is one leeward hatch for front compartment, two hatches on the main cabin roof and four opening window hatches.
Steering is provided by two carbon rudders with JP3 steering and self-aligning bearings connected to a centreline aluminium tiller.
Below decks on this Open 45 accommodation is provided in 4 bunks beneath the cockpit as well as two bunk seats with lee cloths.
There is one main navigation station and chart table and a galley with a Force 10 gimballed stove and sink with salt water foot pump.
An Espar Airtronic D2 Heating system heats the main living compartment and one separate hanging-closet to dry out foul weather gear.
