are pleased to offer for sale a stunning Norman Dallimore ketch built by William King & Sons of Burnham on Crouch in 1937. ‘Blue Trout’ is a fine example of a classic wooden cruising yacht boasting a first class pedigree. As well as exhibiting the typical graceful and fine lines from the drawing board of Norman Dallimore she was built by a yard with a reputation for building structurally sound yachts. This is confirmed by her 2015 out of water survey, which reads better than a yacht a fraction of her age. ‘Blue Trout’ was sailed single-handed in the ARC 1986 trans-Atlantic race by the current owner. She has been well maintained and restored with further comprehensive works and a new Perkins M130 diesel engine installed in 2015 at Gillingham Marina. ‘Blue Trout’ is on the National Register of Historic Vessels, certificate No. 1007 A Brief History Between 1947 and 1965, ‘Blue Trout’ spent many months sailing the Mediterranean Sea. When she sailed from Southampton to Antibes, France in 1947 she had a National engine and a British captain named Captain Johnson who left her in Marseille before arriving in Antibes because there was no more whisky on board! In 1948, the internal layout was rebuilt in Marseille with sycamore wood and a new GM 2 cylinder 71 engine was installed. ‘Blue Trout’ was sold in 1965 to a Captain Michel Feuga who transformed her from a cutter into a ketch rig. In her current ownership from 1982 she has been much loved and cared for with a programme of refits and maintenance including the new engine in 2015. In our conversations with the owner he confirmed that ‘Blue Trout’ is a joy to sail with few vices, a fine temperament and incredibly, he has most often sailed single-handed.
