Of the 41' Hatteras convertible models built in this model's run from 1986 to 1991, this hull has many of the preferred options available including the 535hp 6v92 which allow a reasonable 25 knot cruising speed and solid sea keeping qualities. This layout with the galley up and forward to starboard makes for more comfortable salon seating. Hatteras teak interiors had set the standard for all convertible builders during this time period. The walk-around double berth forward with head entry door is comfortable and accommodating. A couple of closets and several large drawers afford good storage for staying aboard. The guest stateroom has upper lower berths and a nice closet also.
Set up for cruising or fishing/diving, there is a walk-through transom door to a fiberglass swim platform and retractable cockpit shade, plus a rectangular teak table with a couple of folding deck chairs. For fishing days, the table can be switched out for a teak 4-rod Release rocket launcher and drop down the pair of double-spreader Rupp outriggers. There is an underdeck fish box and tackle center forward with cockpit sink. Safe passage to the foredeck is assisted by her full bow and deckhouse railings. There is a practical anchoring system with electric windlass, fiberglass pulpit with CQR 45-pound anchor and rode.
This boat owner has primarily enjoyed his boat when anchoring up for the weekend. Since his destinations were usually short distances, the main engines have remarkably low hours (775 per hour meter). The starboard motor has had an overhaul. The Onan generator has higher hours since it was operating through most of the anchored times and in 2021 the power end of the genset was rebuilt. Although lightly equipped and in need of some updating, this Hatteras with a little refresh could easily become a great choice for a cruising couple or small family.
Entering the salon from the boat cockpit up two steps through the hinged door with window, the open deckhouse area has a long settee the full length of the portside and L-shaped settee to the starboard side aft with a clear Lexan top cocktail Hi-low table that can fold open to make into a larger dining top. Just ahead is the galley area with wood-look Formica countertop, a Sub Zero under counter refrigerator/freezer, a two-burner electric stovetop, and above a Sharp Carousel microwave/convection oven. The countertop lifts up outboard hiding a brushed stainless basin sink with faucet, soap dispenser, and drinking water tap, plus a three-bottle bar storage compartment. The lower cabinet contains 4 drawers and an under the sink cabinet. Above next to the microwave is a tambour sliding door with storage shelves and above three hinged storage compartments. On the side of the cabinet is an icemaker that is inoperative. Both settees have storage beneath the lift off cushions. The windows are treated with adjustable mini-blinds and are framed with decorative lambrequins. Decor pillows are on the settee which match the window dressings. The side deckhouse window can slide open, although have not been opened for a long while. The salon has a digital A/C thermostat by the entry door. To the portside forward is a teak sliding door cabinet which formerly housed a TV, wiring is intact. A few baskets of artificial plants are above. The outboard side of the salon has soffits with down spot lighting which are controlled on a dimmer switch. Both settees are a light gray ultra-suede, and the carpeting is a blue-green short pile. Center companionway steps lead down forward to the staterooms.
At the base of the steps to starboard is the Guest stateroom with upper-lower twin berths with reading lights and teak bed rails. A hull side opening portlight (opaque) gives some natural lighting and ventilation if needed. A good-sized, full-length teak closet is forward, drawers beneath the lower bunk, a full-length mirror on the back of the teak door, and a fan control knob for the A/C. There are off-white vinyl wallcoverings, aqua bedspreads, and a carpeted sole.
Across the hall is the teak entry door to the Head, with white solid surface vanity top and molded sink with faucet. The outboard above the counter is all mirror with a slide opening medicine cabinet. The toilet is a fresh water SeaLand Vacuflush and there is an exhaust fan on the mirror just above. A separate shower compartment with clear plexiglass framed with aluminum has a molded seat, opening hullside (opaque) portlight, and wand style shower fixture. There is a switch for the sump pump and toilet and indicator lights for pump and holding tank. Vinyl laminate sole and a second door which lead into the master.
All the way forward is the Master Stateroom with teak cabinetry, closets, doors, bed rails, and trim. A walk-around, centerline, queen berth has a tropical plant print bedspread, and coordinated upholstered headboard and side panels with built in bedstands to either side of the bed. Above the forward bulkhead is mirrored with a framed print in the center mounted on the door which opens into the anchor locker. An opening overhead deck hatch (solid) can provide ventilation or emergency egress if needed, plus two hull side opening portlights (opaque) to either side. Two drawers and a lower cabinet are on both sides of the berth and a teak hanging lockers are on both sides aft as well. A small TV cabinet is above on the starboard side and on the shelf to the portside is a decorative 110v table lamp nearby the AC digital thermostat. The sole is carpeted and there is a private entry door to the head.
The bridge has a helm console with bench seating in front as well as a bench seat along the portside with storage beneath both. Hynautic wheel steering with a Ritchie Powerdamp magnetic compass just forward of the wheel with VDO engine gauges to either side. Morse engine controls with clutches to starboard and throttles to port with a safety / grab rail to that side of the console. Flybridge has a tinted dark Plexi windscreen and behind a stainless grab railing. To the starboard of the helm is a clear plexiglass covered compartment that can be used as a chart table or otherwise a large glovebox. Below are cabinet doors to access beneath the console. On the aft face of the console are the ignition keys and start buttons, bilge manual switches and indicator lights, Bennett trim tab toggles, Glendinning syncronizer switch, Hatteras systems monitor panel, battery parallel switch, and nav/instrument light controls. The Si-Tex sounder in the overhead box is no longer functional. Dual marine stereo 12v unit.
Detroit Diesel / Covington 535hp 6V92TAs, it is reported that the starboard engine has had an overhaul and the port engine has had a new turbo. Starboard side engine hour meter is operating and reads 772 (1/6/22), Port side hour meter is not running and reads 602.
