The Westerly Tiger is a six-berth fin keel family cruising yacht with better sailing performance than the bilge keel Centaur. These yachts were constructed to a very high standard, which is why older Westerly's hold their price very well. Overall, the Westerly Tiger is a tough and capable cruising yacht.
Contact InformationPlease call our Kent – Chatham Office for further information or to arrange a viewing.
AccommodationThe Westerly Tiger offers six berths in two cabins. The forward cabin has two single berths; the port side is slightly shorter and not ideal for a full-sized adult, while the starboard side is full adult size. The main cabin can sleep four persons, with a double berth and two rear quarter berths. Due to luggage storage needs, the starboard quarter berth tends to be used for storage rather than sleeping. The heads include a sea toilet. The galley is located to port in the saloon and is fitted with a two-ring gas hob, sink, and fridge. The compressor is fitted in the starboard cabin locker, with a cooling plate fed into the cold box. The saloon is light and airy, with a dining area that can seat a full crew and is conveniently located near the galley for ease of catering and entertaining. The dining area can convert into a double berth if required. A Webasto diesel heater with two warm air outlets (one in each cabin) is two years old.
Sails and SparsMasthead rigged sloop with an anodised aluminium mast and boom. Stainless steel standing rigging and Terylene running rigging. Features include roller reefing mainsail, furling headsail (Plastimo), symmetrical spinnaker in yellow, and a full-length spinnaker snuffer. The spinnaker pole is kept mounted vertically to the front of the mast when not in use.
SailsLocated behind the companionway is a Volvo two-cylinder 10hp diesel engine (fitted 2002) with 10 hours since the last rebuild in 2019, including valves, bearings, and pistons. The engine features electric start, seawater cooling, shaft drive to a three-bladed propeller, and single lever control. Last out of water maintenance was in winter 2018.
Electrical SystemsEquipped with 2 x 12-volt batteries: 1 x 12-volt 85Ah domestic (2018) and 1 x 12-volt 85Ah engine (2015). Charging is provided by the engine alternator, a solar panel for the starter battery, and a wind generator for the leisure battery, including the fridge circuit. The engine alternator has a three-way charging splitter, but only two are currently used. An old shore power three-way battery charger and onboard power supply unit are installed. The boat inventory includes a 25 metre shore power cable.
Deck EquipmentComplete Raymarine / TackTick 'wireless' system with speed, depth, compass, and wind sensors feeding four displays, including one wind analogue display and three dual digital displays that can show any two values of your choice from about 30 NMEA readings. The VHF radio is also an AIS receiver and is fully bi-directionally integrated with the TackTick system and Garmin chart plotter, allowing AIS targets to be seen on the chart plotter or VHF radio screen and called directly by point and click on the radio.

Owners CommentsMy family has owned the boat for 28 years, with 18 of those years as my sole ownership. Westerly built the boat with a pair of winches at the mast, and all activity had to be conducted there. I have converted all the running rigging (except foresail halyard) to be led back to the cockpit. Although it was originally fitted with mainsail boom roller reefing, due to the sail stacker fitted, this can't be used. Instead, it is now fitted with single line reefing, again fed back to the cockpit.
History and ConstructionBuilt in 1973 by Westerly Yachts to a design by John Butler. Features include a white painted GRP hull, teak rubbing strake, white GRP superstructure with grey painted non-slip deck, fin keel, spade hung rudder, tiller steering, and an aft self-draining cockpit.
