PACIFIC HIGH is a one-of-a-kind, long-range cruising cutter ketch built by Stuart Boat Works, Fl. drawn by Naval Architect Allen Ericson. Ted Hood + Hood Sailing Systems designed and built the spars, standing rigging, and sail handling systems. PACIFIC HIGH was referred to as “Hood’s Electric Boat”. She was designed with all sail handling leading to her handsome, protected pilot house. With those systems, she has been cruising and racing from the Adriatic to the Caribbean in comfort for years, often by a crew of two or even single-handed. The designers and builder studied and understood the “watershed change” yacht design was going through in the 80’s. Powerful, broad, flat sections in the hull carried well aft, result in low heel angles, yielding 8 to 10 knot speeds from PACIFIC HIGH’s 60’ waterline.
The commission’s key characteristics included serious offshore strength, comfort, excellent visibility, ventilation, and a focus on speed. She was built over a 2-year period with an unlimited budget. Her decks and topsides are cored with “Airex”, regarded still by the industry as one of the best coring materials. PACIFIC HIGH’s decks remain strong, stiff, and light.
With a cutaway keel, skeg hung rudder, and 2” thick FRP fiberglass at and below the waterline, she is as strong as any production boat built in the last 4 decades. Her oversized rudder post and stainless-steel 2½” shaft ensure her strength is carried through the propulsion and steering systems.
There are many custom hand-built features about this beautifully sculpted yacht interior that must be seen to be appreciated, including a brass fireplace in the main Salon, bathtub, 14 opening ports, and 7’6” headroom. This is a truly custom, comfortable home on the water that can be cruised all over the world gracefully and safely logging 220+ nm per day.
Recent surveys indicate $3.8 million replacement value and $505,000 current market value.
If you are seeking low or high latitudes, trans-ocean and/or family cruising yacht, the next owner will benefit from the top-quality, carefully selected materials, components, and the finest teak and mahogany available on this yacht. She is a proven world voyager and a wise choice. She can be yours for well below current market value.
Key FeaturesAll the way forward is the chain locker which is surrounded by double watertight crash bulkheads.
The workshop is behind the chain locker.
Next aft is the private double Guest cabin with access to the forward guest/day head with separate shower stall.
The wide open Main Salon with an 8-foot couch to port and an L shaped couch to starboard that converts to a double berth in front of the fireplace. Aft to starboard is the varnished dining table that will seat 8 and has hand-built seating that fits the curve of your body, like the old-fashioned carved church pews, hand shaped, very comfortable.
Next aft to starboard is the navigation station and electrical panels. This is well designed and built for use offshore. There is an entrance to the engine room which has access on all sides and good access to service all equipment, pumps, and running gear.
On the aft port side of the Salon starts the great big Galley, versatile and functional, also designed to be safe at sea. You will find quality equipment including a stove and oven, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, deep large sinks, and tons of storage and tiled counter-space. The galley working space leads aft to the master cabin entrance.
The master stateroom takes advantage of the full width of the yacht, comfortable, charming, and very well appointed with the center-line queen master berth under a beautifully hand carved headboard. The private head has a complete deep bathtub with a shower and hand-painted, custom sink. Combo LG washer/dryer with ironing board are hidden in an aft cabin locker.
Fresh air ventilation is everywhere.
INTERIOR EQUIPMENTStarting at the bow - there is a custom built twin roller anchor platform with a teak Dolphin observation seat forward of the jib furler. The welded stainless pulpit incorporates the twin anchor rollers and anchors.
The fore deck contains the anchor windlass, chain locker, roller furling units for both headsail and staysail and is thoughtfully laid out. The mast has everything leading aft to the enclosed cockpit for safety and easy function.
The center cockpit is deep and extremely comfortable. The two bench seats are great for sleeping under the stars. She has been sailed in exhilarating snowstorms. This area has full controls for all sailing and motoring functions as well as navigation electronics for complete planning and functions on deck. Visibility and seating comfort is optimal for the entire crew and guests.
The aft deck is quite large with chalks for the 14ft tender. There is a custom built launch system attached to the bottom of the mizzen boom that makes launch and retrieval of the tender on either side safe and easy with no removal of the outboard required to store on-deck. A full width Lazarette serves as the “Garage” to house any needed equipment and water toys. The stern has a unique custom sugar scoop making water access and boarding seamless and convenient.
EXTERIOR EQUIPMENTAll exterior equipment is high quality and functional for safe long-range cruising. The world class Novurania DL 430 14’ with new tubes and a new 50hp outboard is typically seen on 100’+ yachts. This tender far exceeds the typical dinghy exploration range, comfort, and protection for a yacht this size. The oversized aft deck and foredeck, both accommodate essential, commodious, non-skid working spaces and 2 full hammocks. The pilot house is fabulous for protected passage making, dining, and lounging. The 14’ tender and outboard are safely stored on the aft deck.
The electronics are set up at two stations, the comprehensive navigation station below and in the cockpit with 360 observations.
The Navigation station encompasses a detailed and organized system of gauges and monitoring instruments to keep track of all electrical equipment.
The large “high-top” jib is in excellent condition with new leach, head, and tack. Staysail is in excellent condition. Vertical battened main sail is in very good condition and vertical battened mizzen is in excellent shape. North Asymmetrical Spinnaker is also in excellent condition.
The standing and running rigging have continually been upgraded and maintained under the direction of Nance + Underwood of Ft. Lauderdale. Their survey from 2019 includes extensive photo documentation. Her chainplates were thoroughly inspected with cabinetry removed along with deck cut aways. Her latest survey of 2023 indicates all deck turnbuckles sound, including her massive twin 7/8” back stay that have been replaced with new stay-lock stays.
