Remarks : Skanner Yachts started in 1981, initially building only the Skanner 19 similar to a Cornish Crabber. After about 30 were sold, the company moved to larger premises in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. In 1990 Skanner Yachts Ltd. closed down. It has been reported that some further boats were later built in Cornwall. The Skanner 19 and Skanner 24 were both designed by Mike Hawes, the owner of the company.   Both the 19 and the 24 are solidly built double-ended long-keelers with gaff rigs. The hulls and decks are GRP, with Columbian pine wooden spars, and really nicely finished interiors with lots of solid teak. Self draining decks & cockpit, deck glued and screwed teak.  Lead ingots. She has a 18HP Yanmar diesel inboard engine. The current owners have loved using her around the Solent for the last 7 years and are only selling due to a growing family. The canoe stern and teak decks make this a beautiful cruiser for couples or a small family with a real love of sailing. She really has to be seen to be appreciated and is currently lying afloat on Hayling Island.
