Boat Description

The Seaward 32RK is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It features a masthead sloop rig, with a bowsprit; a plumb stem; a vertical, walk-through transom; a lifting, transom-hung rudder controlled by wheel; and a lifting keel with a weighted bulb, actuated by an electric winch. The boat displaces 8,300 lb (3,765 kg) and carries 2,400 lb (1,089 kg) of ballast.

The walk-through transom is equipped with a swimming ladder and a hot and cold shower.

The boat has a draft of 6.42 ft (1.96 m) with the keel extended and 1.67 ft (0.51 m) with it retracted, allowing operation in shallow water or ground transportation on a trailer.

The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 3YM30 29 hp (22 kW) diesel engine for docking and maneuvering. The fuel tank holds 20 U.S. gallons (76 L; 17 imp gal) and the fresh water tank has a capacity of 65 U.S. gallons (250 L; 54 imp gal).

The design accommodates sleeping for six people, featuring a double "V-berth in the bow cabin, a U-shaped dinette table that forms a double berth, and an aft cabin with a double berth on the port side. The galley is located on the starboard side just forward of the companionway ladder. The L-shaped galley is equipped with a two-burner stove and a double sink. A navigation station is opposite the galley, on the starboard side. The head is located just aft of the bow cabin on the port side.

The design has a hull speed of 7.41 kn (13.72 km/h).

The versatility of the retractable keel and rudder makes her easy to trailer and anchor in protected shallow coves only a few feet deep and close to shore, while providing surprising seaworthiness offshore. The Seaward 32RK is self-contained for ease of trailering, and one couple can easily hoist the mast and launch the boat themselves without needing a boatyard or extra help. The keel, with a 2,200 pound lead torpedo, provides a 6-foot 6-inch draft fully extended and retracts with an enclosed electric deck winch to a draft of only 20 inches. The mast is raised using the staysail halyard and a block and tackle system, and the rudder retracts vertically into a cassette by just flipping a lever and lifting it up.
