A classic family cruiser, this Rival 31 is in good condition for her age, but with some work needed on the gearbox. The Rival 31 was extended to become the better known Rival 32 and is still as popular as ever.

6 berths in 2 cabins with 6' 2" headroom. V berth forward. Heads to port with Baby Blake marine toilet and sliding wash basin. Saloon with settee berths to port and starboard and folding dining table. Galley to port with two burner gas cooker with grill and oven, stainless steel sink and ample stowage. Chart table to starboard with quarter berth aft. Stainless steel water tank fitted in the keel with pressurised cold water system. Pale coloured vinyl upholstery. Curtains.
Masthead bermudan sloop. Aluminium deck stepped mast and boom. Spinnaker pole. Jockey pole. Stainless steel standing rigging (new in 2007). Terylene running rigging. Slab reefing mainsail. 2 x Lewmar 40 and 2 Lewmar 16 sheet winches in cockpit. Lewmar 16 and Lewmar 25 halyard winches on the mast.
Volvo MD2B, twin cylinder, 25hp inboard diesel engine. Shaft drive with 3 bladed propeller. Stainless steel fuel tank. The water flow through the gearbox is blocked at present, so a new gearbox is needed at a cost of £1,500 fitted.
2 x engine batteries (new 2010) and 2 x domestic batteries (new 2010), all charged by alternator on the engine. 12 volt interior lights. 240 volt portable battery charger.
Built by Marine Construction and fitted out in 1973 by Edward Lane, to a Peter Brett design. She has a short counter stern which was extended to form the better known Rival 32. GRP hull and deck with moulded non-slip surfaces. Encapsulated fin keel. Tiller steering with skeg hung rudder. Self-draining cockpit with teak cockpit seats and teak grating to the sole.
