Boat Overview
Designed by Pierre Roland and built in the USA by D.Wood, this prototype Mini 6.50, named "Biohazard," has less than 3,000nm under its keel. The boat is constructed entirely from carbon fiber and features a canting keel, water ballasts, outriggers, centerboard, twin rudders, a 12 foot bowsprit, and a planning hull powered by a 40 foot carbon mast. It is fully equipped with new or less than 2 years old running rigging.
The electrical system is also new, featuring a Victron Lithium battery with BMS, 2 solar panels, and a fuel cell. The boat comes with 11 sails (see inventory below).
Ownership and Racing History
Jerome Sammarcelli, a well-known Mini 6.50s/Open 5.70s builder and offshore racer, purchased the boat in 2015 and completely refitted it. The boat has been meticulously maintained and is fully equipped for offshore racing. In 2016, it consistently finished on the podium and won the "Bishop Rock Race," a 200nm singlehanded race to Cortez Bank. In 2017, Biohazard won the overall trophy of the Pacific Singlehanded Sailing Association Dave Wall Series. Despite being the smallest boat on the race course, Biohazard is always one of the first to finish! It is ready for serious offshore sailing and optimized for singlehanded or double-handed sailing. Additionally, it can participate in regular buoy and coastal point-to-point races.
Under PHRF Southern California, the boat rates 140 (buoy), 123 (RLC), and 120 (OWC).
A recent survey conducted in April 2016 established the replacement value of Biohazard at $120,000. The boat is priced to sell.
