Like the overall Outer Reef Classic Series, SUERTUDO‘s options and systems choices were made by insightful owners, which were well executed as a result of their opportunity to work directly with the owner of the company and the experienced Outer Reef Yachts team.
SUERTUDO is a remarkable 2020, 72’ Outer Reef Classic Series yacht, designed with options and systems chosen by insightful owners. The build process involved direct collaboration with the owner of Outer Reef Yachts and their experienced team. Owners have the opportunity to review choices made by previous owners and explore the latest innovations in the marine industry before finalizing their decisions.
The Outer Reef Classic Series is renowned for its exceptional sea-keeping abilities, spacious accommodations, classic design, and exquisite custom interiors, resulting in high value retention in the marketplace. The 750 hp John Deere engines are favored for their fuel efficiency and reliability, making them a top choice for builds ranging from 67’ to 72’. SUERTUDO boasts an impressive range of over 2,000 nautical miles at 9 knots, including generator consumption and reserve, and 2,700 nautical miles at 8 knots. This extensive range enables sisterships to reach remote destinations exceeding 8,000 nautical miles with fewer fuel stops. Unlike full displacement yachts of this size, which are limited to a maximum speed of 10 knots, SUERTUDO can achieve 14 knots at 80% engine load when necessary.
This opportunity to acquire the only pre-owned 72’ Outer Reef available worldwide, without the multiyear wait for a new sistership at significantly higher prices, is unique and should be strongly considered by knowledgeable buyers familiar with the cruising market in this size range. Previous Outer Reef owners have included brands such as Fleming, Nordhavn, Marlow, Hargrave, Northern Marine, Ocean Alexander, Grand Banks, Grand Alaskan, Selene, Viking, Offshore, Burger, Hatteras, Sabre, Riviera, and many other well-known builders.
Walkthrough
SUERTUDO exemplifies the popular 720 Classic Motoryacht series.
The integral swim platform facilitates easy access to floating docks, yard transfers, and various in-water activities. From the swim platform, you can enter the aft crew/guest area and engine room through a watertight transom door, with additional access to a spacious aft deck via port and starboard staircases.
The aft deck features a staircase leading to the flybridge, optional teak decking, wing doors, a custom cabinet with refrigeration and storage, built-in seating, a beautiful teak table, and four deck chairs for comfortable alfresco dining. A custom-designed premium stainless steel and glass exterior door and window were selected, with the window capable of raising and lowering; when lowered, the large flatscreen TV can rotate 180° for viewing from the aft deck seating, enhancing the alfresco lifestyle.
Upon entering the salon, the aft cabinet containing the raising flatscreen television also offers substantial storage ahead of the lifting mechanism, along with a cabinet to port featuring various entertainment options, including the recently installed Starlink system for excellent offshore communication. Towards the aft end of the salon, a staircase on the starboard side provides access below to the fourth cabin and other areas beneath the main deck. An extended L-shaped sofa with storage is located to port, while an additional sofa with end tables is situated on the starboard side. Forward of the starboard sofa is a large granite-topped cabinet serving as both an additional pantry and liquor storage.
Moving forward and up two steps from the salon, there is a well-appointed on-deck head and a large refrigerator/freezer. The galley features granite counters, household appliances including an LP stove top and oven below, microwave, dishwasher, and wine cooler. The granite-topped island in the galley offers substantial storage with large drawers.
This yacht features an open layout, which is highly desirable. Additionally, a raising panel attached to the aft area of the L-shaped seating in the pilothouse can provide separation for nighttime travel or create a more private conversation or workspace, separating it from the salon area and galley. There is also significant storage under the L-shaped seating in the pilothouse, along with a granite table for dining. To starboard, the yacht has a wider, more comfortable staircase than previous sister ships, allowing easy access to the flybridge. The center-position Stidd helm seating provides excellent visibility, both forward and aft. The chosen electronics and systems were the result of extensive research and due diligence, enabling a couple to confidently handle the vessel both underway and during docking.
A well-designed staircase from the pilothouse leads to the owner and guest accommodations below. Forward is the VIP stateroom with a queen berth, additional bookcase storage, cedar-lined hanging lockers, and a private ensuite head and shower.
Moving aft from the VIP to port, the stateroom features a full queen-size berth below and a single pullman above, along with a cedar-lined hanging locker, drawer storage, and a large ensuite head and shower.
Opposite the port cabin is one of the two full-size washer/dryer sets, and continuing aft, the Master stateroom includes a centerline king berth with granite-topped side tables, custom overhead lighting, and indirect lighting under the berth. Optional larger ports, a flat-screen television similar to the other staterooms, and cabinets with drawer storage on both port and starboard sides are methodically sized for long-duration voyages. To starboard, there is a full-height walk-in hanging locker with additional shoe storage, and near the head of the king berth, there is an even larger walk-in L-shaped hanging locker.
This stateroom features a separate, standalone air conditioning system powered by the inverter, and a doubled-sized house battery bank to ensure comfort in the master area while at anchor without running the generator. An additional GPS monitor provides information, including an anchor watch system. The ensuite head features a marble countertop, and the large shower, like the others on board, has a mosaic tumbled marble floor.
Continuing with the interior, the rear staircase from the salon leads down to the lower accommodation, where the second separate washer and dryer are located. At the bottom of the staircase, a door reduces sound travel to the salon on the starboard side. Moving aft, there is a stainless steel-topped workbench area, built-in trash compactor, toolbox, and storage above the workbench for the raft, along with a full-size freezer. Centerline, three steps lead up to the watertight door that opens to the swim platform area. To port, there is a double berth cabin with a full ensuite head and shower, which can serve as either a fourth family or guest cabin or crew cabin. Moving forward along the centerline walkway, there is a galleyette with refrigeration and storage beneath a granite counter with a sink and built-in microwave above.
The engine room is accessed through a watertight door, housing the twin John Deere 750 hp engines, twin 20 kW Northern Lights generators, and much of the yacht’s systems, including the watermaker, frequency and voltage converter, and fuel tanks outboard. This area is air-conditioned, and the twin chiller redundant system is located in the engine room, along with the enclosed shaft Seatorque system.
For safety at sea, the port and starboard walkways feature high bulwarks with stainless handrails above. Forward, these bulwarks are part of the Portuguese bridge, which includes an opening gate. The gray non-skid surface chosen minimizes glare underway and is easier to maintain. The foredeck features a full lounge that can also revert to a standard seat with storage below. The upgraded 4000 model Maxwell windlass includes 300 feet of chain and a 132-pound stainless Ultra anchor. A handheld remote control with multiple functions can be operated from anywhere onboard.
The wide, comfortable staircase from the pilothouse leads to what may be the largest flybridge on a 72-foot yacht. The hardtop over the forward section is designed to maximize visibility through the three-sided enclosure below. The upper flybridge console contains duplicate systems found in the pilothouse, such as fully hydraulic proportional bow and stern thruster controls and stabilizer system controls. There are Stidd seats, and the gray non-skid seen below continues on the main deck. Port and starboard, U-shaped seating with granite tables and storage below the seating is also included. An additional storage cabinet with lounge above is located next to the helm chairs.
Moving aft and down a couple of steps to starboard, there is a large stainless grill and sink, while to port, a refrigerator and large opening storage compartment are available.
SUERTUDO features a hinged mast at the aft end of the hardtop, allowing the yacht to have a clearance below 21 feet, enabling travel to the Great Lakes via the Hudson River to Albany, then entering the first lock at Troy of the New York State canal and lock system, and departing that system upon reaching Oswego on the southern end of Lake Ontario. The hardtop is also equipped with six 300-watt solar panels.
Continuing aft on the flybridge deck, the boat deck houses a 2020 Walker Bay Venture 14-foot tender with a 70 hp Yamaha on removable raised chocks. This area also includes an abundance of water toys, such as two kayaks with mounting brackets and two SEABOBs. The 1,700-pound davit is fully hydraulic and features a 12-foot telescopic arm for lowering the tender and other water toys behind the extended swim platform or to the side of the vessel. Two stainless posts allow for a sunshade from the rear part of the hardtop to the top of the posts for sun protection. Access from the boat deck area is easy via a sliding glass hatch leading down the staircase to the aft deck.
