History

From her launch in 1933 and for nearly 30 years MAUDALRIC was registered in Glasgow.  During WW II she was commandeered by the Admiralty; the records showing her stationed at Bridport for patrol duties along the south coast. Apparently she was armed with a machine gun mounted on the foredeck. In 1962 she was sold to Sir Dudley Herbert Cunliffe resident in Jersey. Registered there some 5 years later she was sold in 1967 to Sir Gordon Albert Wolsey in Ireland who took care and refitted her during his 13 years of ownership. In 1980 she was sold to Ridge Investments Limited also of Jersey and again in 1989 to another company in Alresford, Hampshire. In November 1993 Mr John Scouler Stark a professional engineer bought her and started a complete refit in order to adapt the boat for sailing in cooperation with the Tabarly family. In 2004 Mr Stark moved to Canada and Christine Tabarly registered the boat for sailing in the South Mediterranean. For this purpose she was completely refitted from 1995 to 2000, details of which and a subsequent refit are in the relevant section below.

MAUDALRIC has done the inland waterway trip from the Mediterranean to the Solent via Lyon, Paris and Le Havre - twice from South to North and once in the other direction. In July 2000 she went to Brest via the Channel Islands and Ushant and took part in the four yearly Classic Boat Festival in which s he was chosen as one of 30 boats out of 2,500 to take part in the ‘Parade Navale’. She then moved on to the Douarnenez festival continuing south to Bordeaux and thence through the Canal du Midi to Marseillan in Langedoc. From 2005 to 2009 she has been mainly sailing from France to Ibiza and around the Balearic Islands from her berth there and is now in Alicante, Spain.
