Accommodations

Morgan used KOUKLA as the M-512 show boat at the Annapolis boat show. The warmth of the finest Burmese Teak cabinetry, with a bright, expansive Main Salon, holding numerous Ports, large Windows, a Teak parquet floor, a Teak Dinette which converts to sleep two, and a modernized Galley would make any Chef jealous all provide the highest quality of a Morgan.

Forward of the Main Salon is a large, comfortable, two person V-Berth, with mirrored cupboard, deep drawers and hanging locker.

Aft of this stateroom, to starboard, is the full En-suite, Mirrored, with Electric Head, Corian counter, storage drawers and Washer/Dryer.

To Port is the Workshop with cupboards and work bench.

The bright, expansive Main Salon is a perfect area for relaxing and entertaining. Salon Seating is covered in high-end, washable "Ultra-Suede" with colorful throw cushions for added comfort, both Port and Starboard . This seating follows the curvature of the hull making the most efficient use of space with storage above and below.

Moving Aft, to Port, is the Chef's L-shaped Galley sporting Corian counter tops, with Deep Drawers, a Double Stainless Steel Sink with Hot/Cold pressure water and Corian cover adding to the useable work space. The Refrigerator has four independent compartments; two front loading and two drawers, each with there own individual holding plate, regulator valve and temperature control. Included in this Galley is a top loading 10 cu. ft. Freezer with three holding plates, a 1 HP compressor and seperate compressor and back up 12 V evaporator plate. Both the refrigerator and freezer have independent temperature monitoring systems with numerical displays. The Stove Top has a Corian cover with two different systems for cooking: a Kenyon two element electric appliance and a two burner Miele Gas appliance - new 2017. A sensor and valve system protects from leaking gas.

Opposite the Galley is a comfortable Dinette which converts into a two- person berth. Dinette Seating cushions are covered in a cherry yellow, high-end, washable "Ultra-Suede", also with colorful cushions for coziness.

As you move Aft you will find a Navigation station and opposite is access to the Engine room, which also has access from the Master en-suite. The AC/DC Electrical Panel is also located here.

The Master Stateroom is large and features a raised Queen sized bed with storage under, hanging lockers, numerous drawers and cupboards, plus a mirrored vanity. The en-suite head has both a tub and shower, electric head, mirrored sink area with Corian counter tops, storage cupboards below and extra linen storage in the tub/shower area.

Heating systems are two independent diesel powered systems and three reverse cycle AC systems for the ultimate in comfort, in any climate.

Hull and Deck

KOUKLA has an AIREX foam cored hull above the waterline and is solid hand-laminated fiberglass below the waterline. The bottom was painted in 2018 with Micron 66. This yacht is painted with Awlgrip.

The Hull Deck seam is joined by adhesive bonding and mechanical fasteners through an extruded aluminum toe rail. There are perimeter stainless steel stanchions with two lifelines, a stainless steel pulpit, a short aluminum sprit with dual anchor rollers and a stainless steel tubing radar arch aft, with a stainless pulpit aft.

Hatches are all Lewmar, with stainless Dorade vents and the 22 opening ports in the raised deck have all been fitted with surface mounted protective covers. Mechanical systems all have back up systems to ensure critical systems are maintained whilst at sea.

The Owners sail KOUKLA from the safety of the large, comfortable cockpit. The hydraulic furling systems aboard are Aviation grade. These hydraulic motors are sealed and are not subject to salt water corrosion. Sail handling can also be manually operated. Deck fittings are Stainless Steel. Foredeck hand-holds are made of Titanium.

Extensive Refit by Hinckley

From 2000 to 2003 KOUKLA went through a unique and extensive refit at the Hinckley Yard in Maine. KOUKLA was lengthened to 56 ft. with improvements that increased hull speed, added storage areas, and added rear deck space to accommodate for her tender. At this time all major equipment was also replaced including a new Perkins engine, a Westerbeke 11 kw generator, all electrical wiring, sails, furling systems plus all electronic and deck equipment such as windlass, rigging, winches, and arch. The interior was also modernized with a Galley to make any Chef jealous.

KOUKLA may initially look technically complex, but in reality the addition of several backup (redundant) systems are capable if primary systems fail for some reason. In this case, the backups take over automatically or by the push of a button. This backup (redundancy) capability is common in military applications and it has been included on KOUKLA, for systems that are considered critical, for safety and comfortable operation of the boat.
