"Egret" Overview

"Egret" is a cruisers cruiser and an excellent example of the Monk 36. She has a classic profile and is one of the most popular. At 36' and 13' beam, she has a semi-displacement hull and a full keel with a protected prop and rudder. She has a high freeboard with molded in spray rails and a tall and flared bow.

"Egret" is in excellent shape and well taken care of, and it shows. She has updated electronics and is truly one of a kind, designed with added counter space, under counter fridge/freezer, cabinet mounted microwave, and an upgraded Cummins engine. The Monk 36 is a big, comfortable vessel built for your dream voyage, easy to handle and perfect for the Great Loop. Built in Nova Scotia with roots in Taiwan, she has both a great heritage and pedigree. With ease of access for both people and (large) dogs, there are no more than three steps to a place to land. Due to her traditional aesthetics, she has great universal appeal. "Egret" has a large aft cabin and a lot of storage throughout. The galley was designed with an undercounter refrigerator that resulted in additional counter space. A second refrigerator was added in an aft storage cabinet. "Egret" is a well taken care of, maintained, and updated example, and it shows.

The PowerBoat Guide states the well-respected Monk 36 as a “graceful aft-cabin trawler” offering a mix of “simplicity, comfort, and seaworthiness.” The Ed Monk-designed semi-displacement hull is powered by a single diesel engine. The bow is tall, and there’s plenty of freeboard from stem to stern. There’s a flybridge helm station (in addition to a lower helm in the saloon) that provides good sightlines around the boat. Wide side decks and rails all around are a plus for safety, and there’s room for dinghy storage on the cabin top. "Egret's" dinghy is davit mounted on the stern.

The aft cabin is the master stateroom, featuring a queen-sized berth offset to starboard. This design leaves room for a large hanging locker to port and drawers and storage lockers on the starboard side. The adjacent head includes a separate shower. (Older versions have a bathtub.) The second stateroom is forward, with a large V-berth and an adjacent enclosed head compartment.

The main saloon has a port settee and a high-low table that converts to a double berth. Just aft is the L-shaped galley. Equipment includes a full-size refrigerator/freezer, a three-burner stove/oven, and a double stainless-steel sink.

Ed Monk is well known for his yacht designs, and his 36-foot trawler helped popularize the genre. The boats were originally built in Taiwan, but production shifted to Nova Scotia in 1992.
