DESCRIPTION

1953 McGruer 35ft  Bermudan Cruiser/Racer. Sally of Kames was designed by James McGruer and built to Lloyds 100A1 by Bute Slip Dock Company of Port Bannatyne. One of only two yachts known to have been built to this design, Sally of Kames is indeed a most attractive and appealing cruiser/racer, easily sailed single handed or with a crew. She is in exemplary condition and only offered for sale due to the owners family commitments. The present owner bought the vessel in 2009 and has since continued to upgrade Sally of Kames with specialist shipwrights undertaking any necessary repairs.

History

Sally of Kames was designed by James McGruer for Ian Muirhead of Lochan Brae, Gareloch Head, Dumbartonshire and built to Lloyds 100A1 by Bute Slip Dock Company of Port Bannatyne and launched in July 1953. She remained in class under successive owners until September 1976.

The second registered owner was N Sanderson of Suffolk Lodge, White Craigs, Glasgow who continued to keep Sally of Kames on a Clynder mooring. In 1964 H L Massey of Helensburgh became the third owner followed in 1970 by Professor W F H Jarrett of Alreock House, Blanefield, Stirlingshire.

In the late 1970s John Cotterill acquired the yacht, moving her to Rhu. His address at the time c/o HMS Neptune, Faslane, Dumbartonshire. The present owner bought the vessel in 2009 and has since continued to upgrade Sally of Kames with specialist shipwrights undertaking any necessary repairs.
