Even in stock format, the E33 is a fun, simple, high-performance daysailer and club racer that can be easily sailed by one or enjoyed by as many as seven, thanks to her extraordinarily large cockpit. This particular example takes it a quite a bit further… the owner wanted a boat that could be sailed entirely from the helm without having to move around the cockpit, stand up from the seat, or even reach around behind to trim a sail. To turn his vision into reality he hired a well-known performance-rigging company to turn the status quo on its head, and they created what is arguably the world’s most ‘push-button’ daysailer. Every function of the rig and sail plan - including halyards, sheets and traveler - is handled by electric Harken Flatwinder winches which have been installed belowdecks. These winches are controlled by a button panel on the helm pedestal which swivels so that it is always within a few inches of the helmsperson on any tack or in any seating position. The sails can be hoisted, furled, unfurled, and doused in under three minutes, all without lifting a finger or touching a winch (except to release the mainsheet halyard as you douse). This make the boat uniquely attractive to sailors who often go out single-handed, or with small children or other crew members who aren’t qualified to help sail. Similar boats have also been popular with older sailors and/or handicapped sailors who are interested in prolonging their cruising or racing career on a vessel that allows them to operate independent of physical exertion from a more standard rig and sail plan.
The E33 was designed to be a fun, simple, and high performance daysailer and club racer that can be easily sailed by one, or comfortably enjoyed by a crew of up to six thanks to her oversized cockpit. These boats boast impressive performance numbers in all conditions, turn heads with their timeless lines, and are surprisingly capable (for their size) for offshore sailing and sleep-aboard cruising. The E33 is one of the few American-made sailboats, built to the highest standards by the renowned shipwrights at Lyman Morse in Thomaston, Maine. This model be trailered and shipped in a 40ft container, further adding to the versatility.

From E Sailing Yachts:
“A carbon fiber mast with swept spreaders and no backstay allows for an ultra-efficient square top mainsail and an easy-to handle-headsail. The jib furler has a very slim luff extrusion and control line led back to the cockpit for virtually effortless furling. Large overhangs and v-shaped forward sections help assure a dry ride. The deep and secure cockpit offers ergonomic seat-backs with proper lumbar support. The 16-foot cockpit easily accommodates six full size adults, yet is designed to make all the lines within easy reach of a single handing skipper. Nearly six feet of cockpit is aft of the traveler, making a perfect “aft lounge” away from all sail handling. Down below the well laid out cabin includes the necessities to get out of the weather or overnight when desired.
From Cruising World Magazine:
“A displacement of about 6,000 pounds combined with less than 9 feet of maximum beam on a 27-foot waterline, give this hull some numbers that point to a high thrill potential.”
With all of the above being said, ZENYATTA is a very different beast from the stock E33, from any other E33 sisterships, and in fact from just about any other daysailer in this class. The current owner - a self-admitted sailing fanatic - went to extreme lengths to modify just about every system on this boat with a major focus on the rig and sailing hardware. The refit philosophy was to create ‘the ultimate single hander’, and as such, nearly $150,000 was spent on overhauling the deck layout and sailing controls. A push-button panel forward of the tiller now gives the skipper fingertip control over virtually every function on deck. The custom, self-tacking jib-boom eliminates the need to grind sheets after each tack and gybe. An autopilot allows the skipper to set a course and step forward in the rare instance where a hand is required on a halyard or sheet. This is truly a special, one-off boat and she will delight the sailor who is looking for race boat performance without the need for competent crew. ZENYATTA shows like a new boat and is priced below the MSRP of a new E33 (with stock equipment).
