Always maintained with great care this Kersten Lemsteraak. In any case from 1976 the ship has always spent the winter in the shed. Currently the current owner is the 6th owner of the ship in a row. Besides the annual maintenance of ship and engine, in recent years major renewals and repairs have been carried out. The gunwale, cockpit, deck and cabin roof are finished with teak and richly carved. After the Pelikaan was finished by Hoogmoed, the owner sailed it in the Netherlands for a year. Then the Pelikaan sailed to her berth in Hable in southern England. After being sold to the second owner in England, she was transported by road to Doncaster, Nothingham to be used as a motor yacht on the River Don. She then spent two years in the shed. After purchase by the Sjoerdsma family in December 1976, they had the boat brought from England by trailer and launched in Huizen in the spring of 1977.
In 1994 the underwater ship was sandblasted and treated with epoxy coating.
In 1998 the ship was completely repainted and varnished.
In 2000, all the woodwork (except spar) was stripped bare, a new paint system was applied. The cabin superstructure and gunwale were also completely de-rusted and a new paint system applied. This was completed in 2001. A new cockpit tent was also put on at that time.
In 2004 and 2005 the paintwork of the cabin, gunwale, cockpit, mast and boom was done.
In 2006 the cabin and inside of the gunwale were repainted (Epifanes 2-component polyurethane paint 804).
In 2009, the gunwale (inside + outside), mast and mountain timber were painted.
In 2008, the rudder blade was stripped bare and repainted.
In 2010, the boom and cockpit were varnished.
In 2011, the gunwale, swords and other paint edges were varnished.
In 2012, normal maintenance was performed.
The interior paneling is of high quality and predominantly made of solid mahogany. The partition wall to the forward section, as well as the door, is partly fitted with small windows in the traditional style. The cabinets under the gunwale in the seating area are designed as open (book) cabinets or fitted with windows, clearly showing off the beautiful Wedgwood crockery in the sea mounts.
In 1996 the cushions in the saloon were reupholstered and the floor covering was renewed.
In 2008, the fresh water pump was replaced.
Electrical completely new incl. wiring, switch, 220V, panels.
In 1993 the old 42 HP Mercedes diesel engine was replaced by a new 4 cylinder marine diesel engine (Ford Mermaid Merlin).
In 1999 a ground fault circuit interrupter was installed.
A new coarse filter was installed in 1999.
In 2000 the grease cord was replaced, in 2008 the grease cord was replaced again.
In 2009, the starter motor was replaced.
In 1995 the sails were renewed by TD Sails in Edam.
In 1996 the jib halyard was renewed.
The sails were cleaned in 2008. The mainsail halyard was also replaced in 2008.
In 1997, the teak of the cabin roof and deck was re-rubbed.
In 2002, the swords, mast and boom were stripped bare and varnished (Epifanes hardwood oil). The hull and mountain timber were also painted at that time. All painting work by Tromp Jachtservice. The cooling water pump was also replaced at that time.
