Comment

With only sixteen yachts built in a two year period, the J/110 is quite rare. Originally this boat was specified to be a performance cruiser for local racing but was also designed and built to be comfortable for family cruising. Only two owners from new, this J/110 has been well maintained and upgraded through the years.

Bluebird has competed successfully in the Scottish Series, Islands Peak Race, and local Clyde races. She has been cruised extensively with family and friends aboard and is light and spacious below deck.

This J/110 is a deep keeled, performance version with twin spreaders, 2021 rod rigging, 2018 performance main sail and genoa and is capable of 10 knots off the wind.

Manufacturer Provided Description

Cruising aboard a J-110 is special. J-110 has a light and open interior design. The impression is clean and functional. The eye can see the shape of the inside of the hull, like a classic canoe, or look out over the deck through large ports. A sense of spaciousness is created by J-110's classic American cruising yacht decor: antique-white panels are beautifully trimmed in cold-moulded teak. The owner's cabin is located in the forepeak, a traditional favourite dating back to the 1920s. There's less action and less noise forward of the main bulkhead. A solid teak and stainless steel main cabin drop-leaf table is placed away from the bulkhead and between settees for better access and as a brace when moving through the cabin at sea. The cockpit sprayhood completely covers the companionway and forward seats of the cockpit. With an autopilot remote control, this is a great location for an "inside" piloting station. J-110's cockpit is ideal for cruising because one person can sail the boat with mainsheet, genoa and backstay adjuster all within reach. And, the helmsman can comfortably lean out against the lifelines, holding the wheel to steer while seeing the headsail. J-110's performance is a function of low vertical centre of gravity, a narrow waterline, good draft and a good sail area to displacement ratio. A key contributor to lowering weight in the design is high-tech Baltek laminate construction with 65 to 70 per cent glass content from TPI's new, patented resin-infusion process. Owners can go one step further to lowering vertical centre of gravity with the optional Hall Spars carbon-fibre mast, (not fitted). The 100 lbs. saved up high is the equivalent of having two 180 lb. crew hiking out on the rail when sailing to windward. Reaching over nine knots becomes almost a daily occurrence on a J-110. Two people can safely fly the asymmetrical spinnaker on its 5.5-foot retractable carbon-fibre J-Sprit. No one has to go on deck when the spinnaker is deployed. It's contained in a snuffer sock operated from the cockpit. Jibing is as easy as letting go the old sheet and pulling in the new one. Sailing downwind, the spinnaker projects out to windward from behind the wind shadow of the mainsail, driving the apparent wind as much as 45 degrees forward of true wind direction.
