Mrs Jones is a well-maintained and lightly used 2009 Hylas 54, hull 57 of just 58 built by the world-renowned Queen Long Marine shipyard in Taiwan. As one of the final Hylas 54s to leave the yard, she benefits from years of refinement in design and construction. Originally launched as Mystical Traveler, she was purchased by her current owners in 2014, who continued the tradition of thoughtful stewardship. Under their care, Mrs Jones has been kept to high standards—professionally maintained and enrolled in a yacht management program during her winters at Palmas del Mar in Puerto Rico.
In the off-season, she’s been stored on the hard in Grenada, protected from the elements. Since 2014, she has cruised the Caribbean with just one season spent in the Bahamas and one year laid up during COVID. Her light usage is a key advantage: systems and equipment have low hours, including only 2,000 original hours on her engine. Mrs Jones has been consistently upgraded, including a new North Sails mainsail (2024), full standing rigging inspection (2024), updated electronics, and fresh bottom paint and detailing in 2025.
Unlike many earlier Hylas 54s, Mrs Jones reflects some of the best build-quality and design enhancements of the line. The hull is hand-laid solid fiberglass reinforced with Twaron aramid fiber, while the deck features an end-grain balsa core with solid glass in high-load areas—built for offshore performance and safety. Her interior is both practical and elegant, with high-gloss varnished hardwood, bamboo with teak inlay flooring, and thoughtful upgrades like a custom mattress in the master cabin, Ultraleather upholstery, a full entertainment suite, and a well-equipped galley.
What sets Mrs Jones apart isn’t just her light use and clean maintenance history—it’s her completeness. She’s equipped for serious cruising, with solar, wind, watermaker, bow thruster, generator, and davits. She carries a large inventory of spare parts, tools, and systems backups—making her ready to cast off tomorrow. If you're shopping for a Hylas 54, you’ll find few that match this blend of condition, outfitting, and pedigree. Mrs Jones offers the rare opportunity to step into a late-model, proven bluewater cruiser that has been gently used and thoroughly prepared.
HighlightsDavid Walters Yachts
The Hylas 54 has a well-earned reputation for strength, comfort, and quality construction, systems and hardware. Designed by German Frers and built by Queen Long. While no longer in production, the Hylas 54 remains one of the most popular choices for cruising couples with ambitions of distant cruising. Versatile and fast, the yacht is exceptionally capable in a variety of sea-states.
The Hylas 54 is most commonly cutter rigged with a Selden triple spreader aluminum stoway mast, a desirable option popular among many is the in-boom Leisure furling main. The modern cutter sail plan provides a wide range of selections to fit all sailing conditions. Ease of operation is provided by thoughtful leads of sheets and halyards along with electric or hydraulic furling mainsail, staysail, and headsail.
The hull is constructed of fiberglass-twaron, a carbon aramid fiber with alternating solid FRP glass layup. The glass is hand laid with no core and utilizes vinylester resins and isophthalic gel coat for superior protection against osmosis and hull blistering. The deck is cored with end-grain balsa except in high-load areas such as deck fittings, where it is solid.
The hull and deck joints are chemically and mechanically fastened with a wide flange and 3M 5200 and stainless steel bolts on 4" centers with backing plates. Interior bulkheads are tabbed on all sides. Massive floors create a rigid hull with plenty of athwartship support. The fin keel is solid lead and bolted to the hull with 35mm stainless steel bolts, which in turn are supported by an 8mm stainless steel backing plate.
AccommodationsDescending the steps from the cockpit, you enter the saloon. To port, there is a spacious seating area with a dinette; to starboard, a comfortable settee. The galley is located aft to starboard, while the navigation station sits opposite to port.
Aft of the galley is the private aft cabin, which includes direct access to a head and shower compartment located to port.
Forward of the saloon, to port, are the crew or guest quarters featuring bunks. To starboard is another head and shower compartment. At the bow is the forward cabin, fitted with a generous V-berth.
The interior is finished in high-gloss varnished hardwood, with varnished bamboo and teak inlay flooring. The headliner is finished in white vinyl on panels, giving the space a clean and bright feel.
Forward CabinThe Hylas 54 is widely respected for its strong sailing performance and offshore versatility, thanks to its modern cutter rig and robust sail handling systems. Mrs. Jones features a triple-spreader Selden aluminum mast with electric in-mast furling, along with Selden Furlex furlers for both the genoa and staysail. A mast-mounted whisker pole supports efficient downwind sailing, and all lines are led aft for safe, shorthanded operation. Her full suite of Antal electric winches—including primary, secondary, mainsheet, and cabin-top winches—makes sail handling easy and efficient.
Her cutter rig provides flexibility in all conditions, whether you're sailing deep in the trades or reefed down in a blow. A new North Sails in-mast furling mainsail (2024), serviced genoa and staysail (2024), and a 1.5 oz asymmetric cruising spinnaker round out a versatile and well-maintained sail inventory. Mrs. Jones is set up for performance, comfort, and control—hallmarks of the Hylas 54's reputation as one of the best bluewater cruisers in her class.
Rigging FeaturesThe Hylas 54 features a hand-laid solid fiberglass hull reinforced with Twaron aramid fiber, offering exceptional strength, durability, and impact resistance. Built with vinylester resins and isophthalic gelcoat, the hull is highly resistant to osmosis and blistering. A lead fin keel is bolted to the hull with massive stainless steel bolts and backing plates, ensuring long-term structural integrity and offshore capability.
The deck is cored with end-grain balsa for stiffness and weight savings, with solid fiberglass used in high-stress areas. It is securely bonded and through-bolted to the hull for a watertight seal. All structural bulkheads are fully tabbed, and robust floor timbers provide outstanding support and rigidity. Together, this construction delivers the strength, safety, and comfort demanded by serious bluewater sailors.
