DESCRIPTION

This Hans Christian 38T is powered by a Beta Marine 50hp diesel engine from 2008, with direct drive and a Campbell 'Sailor' low-drag propeller from 2008.

The engine is serviced twice annually with new oil and filters. She has a built-in hand pump for oil changes and all components are accessible from the front of the engine.

The engine starter was replaced in 2016 (the original was rebuilt and is included as a spare). In 2016, the exhaust manifold and heat exchanger were also replaced; the Balmar 150amp alternator was rebuilt and a new spare purchased; and a dripless shaft seal was installed.

The exhaust piping and hoses were replaced in 2015, and diesel tanks were replaced in 2012.

This Hans Christian 38T is cutter rigged, her mast was removed and fully refurbished in 2007, and her boom was redesigned, repainted and replaced in 2007.

Her standing rigging was replaced in 2007, with lower shrouds upsized during re-rigging.

All running rigging, including blocks, sheaves, clutches, cleats and pins were replaced in 2007.

She features Harken offshore heavy-duty furling systems for both the jib and staysail (2007). All mainsail reefing was replaced in 2007. 

A boom vang was installed in 2010; and a genoa track and car system, and main sheet traveller were installed in 2009.

Winches onboard this Hans Christian cutter include: Anderson 58ST jib sheet winches; 40ST staysail sheet winches; 2x 40ST on mast.

Anchoring systems include: a Lofrans electric windlass with chain gypsy and rope drum (2015); Rocna 33kg main anchor with 260ft chain and 300ft eight-strand rode; Rocna 25kg secondary anchor with 50ft chain and 400ft eight-strand rode; Fortress 35lb stern anchor with 40ft chain and 300ft eight-strand rode; and a stern anchor roller.

This Hans Christian 38T has a heavy fiberglass laminate construction with integral modified full keel design and encapsulated steel plate.

A fiberglass balanced rudder is stepped on the keel with heavy SS stock.

Her bottom was stripped to bare glass, faired, and treated with six layers of barrier coat in 2015; anti-fouling paint was re-applied in 2016; through hulls are all bronze and were inspected in 2016 and two were replaced.

She also features a mahogany bowsprit with SS pulpit and teak planking; and a generous use of teak finishing treated with 3 coats of Sikkens Cetol Natural and 3 coats of Cetol Gloss, plus one new coat each year; and a self bailing cockpit.

This Hans Christian 38T is also equipped with a Walker Bay 9ft RIB tender and a Yamaha 2.5hp outboard.
