Further details are included in the brochure.

Feadship Overview

Katja was built in 1966 by Scheepswerf "De Vlijt", based in Aalsmeer, Holland, a company that we know today as Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards.

For more than six decades, the Feadship name stands for quality, excellence and meticulous attention to detail in the Dutch superyacht industry. To own a classic Feadship is to own a unique piece of superyacht history. Each yacht has her own story and holds a share in the DNA that has made Feadship what it is today.

Feadship started off as an export association in 1949. A postwar Europe has little appetite for luxury yachts, so this group of visionary Dutch builders – and naval architect H.W. de Voogt – aimed for the new world: the United States of America. Starting with a stated goal to promote the export of luxury craft to the US, a Feadship came to be defined as a yacht sold to an American owner, and remained so until at least 1973.

With just three small boats, Feadship was introduced to the American market at the New York Boat Show in 1951. These beautiful yachts managed to make a lasting impression and represented true, traditional Dutch craftsmanship. The Americans were amazed by the yachts’ quality and finish and more over the fact that they were made of steel, which was almost unheard of in America at that time. But it was Feadship’s ability and willingness to fulfill specific demands of American clients that proved to be the real key to success.

Katja History

Over the past four years, Feadship Katja has been completely rebuilt by highly qualified craftsman combining decades of experience in all trades and aspects of the Dutch yachting industry.

The restoration was conducted under the leadership of Paul Hoffman (Haarlem, The Netherlands, 1963).

"I have been doing creative projects for all my life now, be it design, music or architecture. It's what I live for and I guess it's what I'll keep doing. It doesn't really matter if it's a motorbike or a plane, a townhouse or country estate. For me design is good when beauty meets functionality in a composition that pleases the eye. Yes, I always want to see the signature of craftsmanship in the end result, and it has to breathe pure quality too. So I always choose to work directly with only the best craftsmen. For me this has proven to be not just very effective, but simply the best way to get the best result.

The rebuild of Katja was really an extraordinary challenge. My team and I are proud of what has been achieved with the help and commitment of all the people within the Feadship organization. Thank you for your good advice, support and, above all, endorsement and personal warmth. It's a true acknowledgment of the quality of work
carried out in Katja 2014!"

-Paul Hoffman

Feadship Heritage Fleet Foundation

KATJA is member 007 of the Feadship Heritage Fleet.

KATJA represents a rare opportunity to become a member of this exclusive group of Classic Feadship owners.

About the Heritage Fleet
The Feadship Heritage Fleet is an association for the owners of registered Feadships that are more than 30 years old. It has three key objectives:

  • To unite the owners of classic Feadship yachts.
  • To promote the continuance of the Feadship yachting heritage.
  • To organize events for members and offer them services related to their yachts.

There are an incredible number of Feadships still sailing that were launched more than three decades ago. As well as being a testimony to Feadship standards of construction, many of these yachts have been scrupulously maintained by their owners. They are very proud of the heritage of their yacht and still enjoy cruising the world in the style and comfort which is so very unique to the Feadship brand.

The inaugural meeting of the association took place on 16 April 2013 in the historic De Roode Leeuw restaurant in Amsterdam, which was also the location of the very first Feadship meeting in late 1949. Now the activities of the Feadship Heritage Fleet continue to make history as we bring together the classics in a unique way.

Join the Club
You will also enjoy access to a wide range of dedicated services. Owning a classic Feadship can still be even more rewarding when a group of owners share their knowledge and experience. Examples of issues covered include insurance, financing, preferred destinations and crewing matters.

The Feadship Heritage Fleet members are welcome again at the Grand Prix Historique in Monaco 2017

Every two years the "Grand Prix Historique Formula I" takes place at the world famous street circuit of Monte Carlo in Monaco. In 2014 for the first time, the Feadship Heritage Fleet attended the event with five classic yachts and a great number of FHF members and guests.

The three-day event really was a great success. Yacht hopping members and selected invitees enjoyed the spectacular races from the aft deck of one of the classic Feadship Yachts moored on the best spots in the harbor right in front of the Tabac Corner. The weekend was concluded with a stylish diner on the terrace of Restaurant Les Deux Freres, at which occasion the latest model of Spyker Sportscars was revealed by the CEO of Spyker and chairman of the Feadship Heritage Fleet, Mr. Victor Muller.

The owner of Katja is eligible for one of the probably 12 berths that will be available for members of the Feadship Heritage Fleet when the next Grand Prix Historique Formula I takes place in the summer of 2017.
