DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this William Anderson Gaff Cutter Built in 1912 as a yacht by William Anderson of Millom near Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The first owner was Mr T.L. Preston of Barrow and from the information available she spent the years before WWII around north Wales and Cumbria before being laid up in Fleetwood betweenand chopped about badly post war by having over 3’ of her counter cut off and a Bermudan rig fitted. Bought by the present owner in 2000 she has since been thoroughly refitted with a new deck done by Waterfront Marine of Bangor, new rigging, recent sails, recent engine and complete new interior. She has been cruised extensively by the present owner, much of it single handed, with regular trips to Ireland and Scotland and a round Britain adventure visiting as many ports as possible over 7 years. She has also been raced in various events and has always proved herself as a fast and competitive boat. A new larger yacht is sought by the owner for more long distance cruising so she is sadly being put up for sale where a new owner will benefit from the years of effort and skill that have gone into making her a very solid and safe yacht.   Length on Deck 38’ Length Overall 52’ Length Waterline 33’ Beam 10’6” Draft 5’5” Construction Planked in 1.25” Pitch Pine fastened with bronze to heavy sawn oak frames in futtocks fastened with galvanised bolts.
