DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments on this Lugsail Pram Dinghy

Lugsail pram dinghy Built by the late owner to a design by George Whisstock of Whisstocks Boatyard, Suffolk. The build was completed around 2000 and the boat has since been dry stored.

Constructed to what appears to be a very high standard and remains in immaculate condition having never actually been launched or sailed.

The level of detail in the construction is very impressive, there is no plywood used and all knees have been laminated out of alternate layers of dark mahogany and light ash giving a beautiful finish.

The hull construction makes her very stiff and robust, and she will not suffer from drying out and leaking due to the glued composite structure.

Can be easily lifted on to a car roof for transport, would make an excellent tender for a classic yacht as she is robust and does not mind being out of the water.

A beautiful little dinghy in excellent condition.

Length 8’

Beam 4’1”

Weight 60kg

Construction

Cold moulded hull using West System epoxy.

Fore and aft strip plank of mahogany, ash and douglas fir. Overlaid externally with a diagonal veneer of mahogany. Hull finished inside and out with varnish, thought to be a 2 pack polyurethane type.

4 sets of steamed oak timbers glued to the inside of the hull for strength.

Solid mahogany keel with brass rubbing strip. Small ash bilge runners with bronze rubbing strips.

Solid mahogany fore and aft transoms supported by quarter knees laminated from alternate strips of ash and mahogany to give a contrast of colour.

Mahogany inwhales to stiffen to top of the hull. Stainless steel fairleads at the bow and a pair of fold away stainless rowlocks midships.

Mahogany thwarts sat on a douglas fir stringer, supported by laminated hanging knees similar to the quarter knees in construction.

Solid mahogany sole boards with non slip patches are fitted in 9 separate pieces that can be removed if necessary.

Solid varnished mahogany dagger board case with varnished mahogany dagger board.

Varnished mahogany drop plate rudder with stainless pintles and a laminated tiller.

Rig

Standing lug rig on an unstayed varnished wooden mast. Varnished wooden lug yard and boom.

Mast is stepped onto the keel and passes through the forward thwart which gives it the necessary support.

White terylene sail from Crusader sails in as new condition.

Mainsheet passes through a block that is fixed to an alloy traveller across the top of the transom.

Halyards fall to a cleat at the mast base.
