DESCRIPTION

Wooden Ships Comments

Classic Folkboat design built by Berthon in Lymington in 1960. Bought by the present owner as a project with a major refit undertaken in recent years. This included new keel bolts, engine and rigging, a refit of the interior, rebuilt cockpit and new decks.

A nice tidy boat with 2 berths, heads and galley. Sitting on a double axle road trailer that is available by separate negotiation. Trailer available for a buyer to use for delivery.

Construction

Planked in mahogany all copper rivet fastened to steam bent oak timbers.

Sawn oak floors across the centreline with steel keel bolts passing through them.

External iron ballast keel with new mild steel keel bolts.

Marine plywood deck sheathed in epoxy glass cloth. Mahogany toe rail all round and a mahogany rubbing strake.

Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings with a sheathed plywood coachroof deck on laminated deck beams. Varnished grab rails and forehatch on the coachroof.

Non self draining cockpit with a thwart either side and painted plywood sole. Thwarts lift up to access lockers beneath with large lazarette locker under the aft deck.

Transom hung rudder.

Rig

Fractional Bermudan sloop rig on a deck stepped varnished wooden mast.

Standard Folkboat rig set up for a deck stepped version with a pair of shrouds to the jumper struts, a pair of lower shrouds, single forestay, split standing backstay and uppers over jumper struts to support the mast head.

Varnished wooden roller reefing boom, converted to slab reefing.

Stainless steel standing rigging to external stainless chain plates, all new in the recent refit.

Roller furling headsail system.

Pair of Gibb self tailing cockpit sheet winches and a Tuffnel mast winch.

Mainsail, 2 headsails and a spinnaker in reasonable condition.

Machinery

Yanmar 1GM10 single cylinder diesel installed new in the recent refit.

Stainless shaft to a centreline fixed 2 blade bronze propeller.

Stainless fuel tank.

Single 12 volt battery charged from the engine alternator.

1 manual and 1 auto electric bilge pump.

Accommodation

Cosy accommodation common to a Folkboat with 2 single berths, heads, galley and sitting headroom.

Step down from the companion hatch with the galley to port. Varnished work surface that hinges up to access the cooker below. Optimus 2 burner paraffin stove with built in tank set on gimbals.

Opposite the galley is a small seat, behind which is a a shelf with the 12 volt distribution panel.

Small bulkheads either side separate off the main saloon area with a single settee berth either side. Each berth has a trotter box at either end for added length.

Bulkhead with centreline varnished doors into the forepeak with the heads and storage space.

Heads is a Baby Blake sea toilet that discharges directly overboard, located on the centreline facing aft.
