Description
The Contessa 35 is a development of the successful One Tonner racer into a popular cruiser racer featuring a conventional aft cockpit and coachroof. This particular example has been very well maintained by her two owners from new. She has been stored ashore for 7 months each year for the past 26 years.

Construction
This boat is built from the same hull mould as the original and most competitive Doug Peterson-designed and Jeremy Rogers-built One Tonner, Gumboots. The hull and deck are made of GRP, incorporating both woven rovings and uni-directional mat, rather than just chopped strand mat. The deck is an end-grain balsa sandwich. It features a lead fin keel with a spade rudder and wheel steering, providing more space in the cockpit. The teak seating in the cockpit was replaced in 2016, and the interior joinery is also teak.
Engine
Beta Marine 37.5hp 4-cylinder engine, installed new in 2004. The engine has a shaft drive via a PRM 120D gearbox to a Gori 3-blade folding prop.

Accommodation
Below deck, the boat can sleep 7, including a forecabin that can be used as a double or two singles. There is a ladder for use with the forehatch. The saloon is generous and deep, featuring a large table, 2 sittee berths, and 2 pilot berths. The 7th berth is a pilot berth to starboard, just aft of the forward-facing nav station. The galley to port is well-sized and comfortable, incorporating a 2-burner Plastimo gas cooker with grill and oven. There are 2 cold boxes, one of which contains a small 12v cooler. The stainless steel sink has hot and cold pressurized water. The heads is made from a complete separate moulding for easy cleaning and features great storage, a Lavac sea toilet, and hot & cold pressurized water to the hand basin and shower head.

Electrical
The boat operates on 12v with 3 batteries (2 service batteries replaced in 2016 and 1 engine battery replaced in 2017). Charging is done by the engine and a mains trickle charger for the winter months. For the last 26 years, she has been mooring based rather than in a marina. Heating is provided by an Eberspacher D3L diesel blown air heating system.
