The Nicholson 32 Mark II is a safe, comfortable all-weather family cruiser with spacious five-berth accommodation. She is easy to handle under sail or power. Rhuna benefits from a Beta 1005 Engine with 30 Hp, a new Simpson Lawrence windlass, and recent GPS chartplotter upgrades.
Excellent project to buy and spend time finishing her to a high standard.
The Nicholson 32 was designed in 1962 by Peter and Charles Nicholson of Camper & Nicholsons, then one of Britain's most prestigious custom boatbuilders, as a good value mid-sized cruising boat. The Nicholson 32 was the first time the company had set up series production, and early boats were completed by an aircraft company under contract, as Nicholson's yard was not set up for mass production.
The hulls were all moulded by Halmatic, and from 1966 onwards the boats were both moulded and completed by Halmatics.
The design went through many minor modifications over the years from Mk I to Mk VIII. The cockpit is deep, safe, and self-draining. Wheel steering. Cockpit lockers. Fabric sprayhood with stainless steel grab bar. Long keel with protected rudder.
Beta H.P. Diesel engine.
Shaft drive to the propeller.
The vessel was re-engined in 2010.
Cruising speed: 6 knots.
Maximum speed: 8 knots.
The ship's electrical system is 12 volts throughout, with power supplied by three 12-volt heavy-duty batteries via an engine-driven alternator.
12 volts with 3 batteries all replaced in 2008 with fiberglass Optima batteries.
Shore power and cable.
The vessel is sloop rigged, and all masts and spars are alloy.
All standing rigging is 1/19 stainless steel.
Rotostay for genoa furling.
Slab reefing main.
Accommodation for 5 persons in two cabins (includes the saloon). The forward cabin has two single berths in the usual 'V' configuration. Just aft of the forward cabin is the head with sea toilet to port and wash hand basin to starboard. The saloon has one single settee berth and one double berth. A single sea berth is to port just aft of the chart table. Within the saloon, there is a dining area that will seat a full crew. This area is local to the galley for ease of catering and entertaining. The galley is to starboard at the after end of the saloon and equipped with a gimballed Taylors Parafin 2 burner cooker at the end of the saloon to port. Eberspacher warm air heating. Headroom: six feet.
Project Boat.
I started this project in 2000.
